The other is free event IDs can sometimes be weak and are worried their not going to be good.
The whitewash on the other hand, I don't get. its lighting on the picture isn't it? Like if you blast a warm white light on something it gets brighter. Its like saying that Yi Sang got darkened because half his face is not in the light.
Hell, if it was another Clair or Ish ID no one would care, because they already got a lot, but this is kinda mean.
More likely it's just an attempt to tide users over during a content drought, much like the last login event in the delays before Season 2.
Personally, I don't think that's going to be necessarily the case. Especially considering that if the entire thing is a "ploy" to keep daily player count up, you kinda have to make the IDs actually worth logging in.
As for "whitewashing"...
... yeah, just ignore them.
They don't actually exist outside of their Twitter bubble.
