What are Friends for?

As the title says, what are Friends for? I see how to add them and even succeeded in adding one Friend, but having them does not seem to actually do anything. Or, at least, nothing that I can discern. any insight would be appreciated.

You can add your friends and then use the characters the friend has set up on their profile company tab I think.

so far nothing ive found, info button in the friends tab doesnt say anything either

If you press the right button to change off edit team
then press on a charachter that is not in your party
then on the top you can change from idenity/ego to "support"
then if your friends are sharing that unit you can use it as extra to get 6 units in battles
(only works outside dungeons as far as i know)

to find your friend code press bottom left corner of main menu and see the code at the top
