[Spoilers] Anyone else really disappointed in the story?
They had an almost completely clean slate with this new era. And it actually starts out great, but then they decide to bring back the time BS from the latest trilogy and recycle the villains and plot points once again. I wish they'd tried bringing something new to the table. The amount of times the characters said the word "timeline" is also ridiculous, btw.

I get that story isn't the main focus of fighting games, but I feel like it's been one of the draws of Mortal Kombat since MK9, at the very least. They really should hire some competent writers next time.

It's actually better than other mk stories... there is only so much you can do after 11 games, the time traveling and realms are pretty much needed to keep it going, in a game based on constant deaths there aren't many options.

it's probably the best story they've done with modern mk

one of the best stories , expecially if you played armageddon

I thought i would be unhappy if the same timeline stuff carried on but i enjoyed all of it personally. Also compared to other fighting game stories its got to be a winner.

nope not at all, definitely expecting an expansion that includes Onaga

Yes. They had one job - make a decent reboot in a fresh universe. Yet they're doing the same timelines and multiverse ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ all over again. Technically this is a direct sequel to MK11, you just find out about this later in the story. No reasons to call it MK1, it's not a reboot.

I feel like MK11 was their peak at storytelling. Now it will only get worse.

I agree with you all that objectivelly it's probably the best one out of modern MKs, but the amount of recycling is really impacting my own enjoyment of it.

That's exactly how I feel, too.

I really enjoyed it - didn't really enjoy 11 and the others as much - I haven't played since like mk3 and I really loved it. Also really loved the last chapter that was just completely crazy with Shao Zero and Ninja Mime etc - that really felt in the spirit of the silly MK of yore, like the midway years, provides a nice counterweight to the gratuitous violence, just my opinion though

+1 was prmoising at first but everything was ruined by this trash plot twist

Are you kidding? Scorpion and sub zero are each other, Raidens a nobody, Kitana and mileena get along, Baraka and Mileena are good this time round, shang tsungs more of an alchemist than a sorcerer, Liu Kang was actually interesting for once, MULTIVERSE ARMAGEDDON, QUAN LI, SHAO-ZERO, janet cage AND a titan havik as the next villain. If this didnt impress you nothing will. I also bet Madam Bo is Bo rai-cho in this universe now as well. Reptile is great, Ermac is good and now Jerrod plus sindel combined.

Yeah its re hashing things a bit but if they just did new characters and no classics it wouldnt be MK anymore.

And I actually love all of these changes, my problem is that all these characters and their stories get completely sidelined after the Shang Tsung plot twist, and most of this stuff doesn't really even matter anymore.

I think it does matter depending on if you're looking at it and see Liu Kang is "our" canon timeline or that timelines make everything irrelevant.
They can continue our timeline and be fine, but that leaves the elephant in the room saying "YEAH BUT -OTHER- TIMELINES". What irritates me though, is how they go and show off MK11 footage in the sotry being presented as "This happened as it is shown" But then bring in Titan Shang and its confirmed that he is the same one, but why doesnt he look like him anymore? Why can we have Epcar Raiden, but not Tokugawa Shang? Or Sindel? I'm fine with the design changes from the idea that these are NOT the same characters, but then the literal characters get brought in and theyre just model swaps.

I mean, exactly! This all was interesting and stuff, like a new fresh look at the same characters, this is what I expected from a reboot! And then suddenly - nope, it's still the same universe, just two different timelines, because both endings from MK11 are actually canon. And then again NOPE, IT'S MULTIVERSE BABY, SO EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE AND NOTHING REALLY MATTERS, EVERYONE IS EXPENDABLE BECAUSE IT'S ARMA-FANSERVICE-GEDDON! And there goes your hope for a decent story, into the ditches of that pyramid, along with all those characters falling there every second in the last chapter.
