Go on youtube look up some combos for the character you want.
practice them untill your fingers bleed.
Mastering 1 character usually takes months in most fighting games.
But honestly, it's all about understanding your resources and the moves of your character. Learn their pokes (long range), if they hit low, mid or high... even overhead. If you don't know what you can do when knocked down, just hold block. MK has its own combo system with strings so the inputs are "dial" like a phone outside of Special Moves which can be used to cancel.
For example, you can do some punches or kicks and cancel into a character's Special Move. Learn what they do, build from that.
But the truth is that there's no quick learning. Just take your time. The Training Mode is there for a reason in ANY fighting game that is remotely interested at teaching something.
