However, be aware that Steam might auto-re-download the folder / file/s if you let it auto-update. Pro tip: Don't delete -- CUT-PASTE the folder / file/s to an external storage device, then put it back before updating the game; and turn the game's updating process to "Only when I launch the game" (so that you can replace the the file/s before you update). Also, if you're an offline player, you can probably skip most updates until a DLC drops... Though, given MK games are now modeled all but a "games as a service", and need to be online a lot of the time as such, it might force you to update more frequently before allowing you to launch the game.
But yeah the folder itself is about 22GB.
In the past, if you removed the movies (such as in MKX), the game simply skipped the movie cut-scenes and jumped right into the fight -- which was an excellent workaround incorporated by NRS. I'm not sure what this purported "new game engine" is for MK1, and whether or not the movies file is independent of the rest of the game... However, given that the 4K texture pack (40Gb) is optional, I'm guessing that the movies can still be removed.
