On consoles : it's completely subjective, no clear winner.
SF6 was my first real entry into the FGC, i liked it, but some stuff in the game keeps on annoying me, idk, abandoned it already for few weeks now. Maybe i'll get back into it at some time and keep on playing it, overall i feel like Fighting games are for me, and fun.
As a fan of RPG and storytelling my money went to MK1.
i loved everything mortal kombat as a kid/teen, but i never understood since then why any one would care for the story modes, but i just saw a stream of lirik playing and i love the way they done it.
i'm just not sure if this is enough. will see
Mk1 has more interesting characters and stories, tons of things to do, unlockables, game modes and a unique, cruel, dark humor that you can't find anywhere else.
I used to play tekken and mk, but that stopped with the ps2 era when tekken started to focus almost exclusively on mp content, same goes for street fighter.
I don't play to sweat, I play to relax... I don't exclude that mk allows for endless training and sweaty fights (a lot of people are into the competitive only and skip single player entirely), but the main difference between mk and the other fighting games is that it doesn't demand you to engage in content you don't like to have fun with it.
Mk has something for everyone, the competition doesn't offer enough single player activities to keep me engaged.
Game to game, they both have their pros and cons. i don't really think the MK1 systems have the depth of the Drive system, but at the same time it's not a bad thing.
One thing I have noticed is just how varied the roster is in terms of how the characters play, and that in conjunction with the Kameo system could lead to more expressive play, and depth through variety.
Not going to lie SF6 can feel kind of samey with how reliant offense is on Drive Rush and Drive Rush Cancel.
I'm really struggling to find a character to play in MK1, because nothing screams pick me as the designs are... kind of bland, outside of like Reptile, but that's really just art style preference. I prefer more stylized approaches to character design like you see in Tekken, SF, and Guilty Gear.
Gameplay wise, I have to say, MK1 has made a lot of improvements. There's combo trials which I was very fond of doing in the SF series. Performance aside, it depends on personal preference which game is better, for me its SF, but I have been an MK series fan as well. Though, I am not as good in MK series as I am in SF series. The core gameplay mechanics are very different in both the games. In MK you need to block using a block button, in SF you block by holding back, combat and character movement is more fluid in SF, especially SF6. The new drive mechanics are beyond amazing.
So, for me SF 6 is the winner, but MK1 not bad. However, the price tag does not justify this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ release of MK1 on PC. There definitely should be a way to sue such companies for selling half assed products. Of course these ♥♥♥♥ faces will make a patch n fix it later on, but that is no excuse for a studio to then charge a stupendous amount of money and lie about how well their product runs. If you're game can't run properly, advertise it honestly and tell people there would be performance issues and bugs, at least be honest.
The people who bought premium edition, have clearly been cheated on by the NRS and WB. Yeah we got an early access, whopdi ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ doo, amazing, but look at your game how badly it runs on PC. It seems to be working fine on PS5, but damn its no way near as optimized for PC as it should be. People who bought the regular edition aren't missing out on anything. These ♥♥♥♥ faces will simply put out a patch n fix their ♥♥♥♥ later on. But they've already gotten their money from us. These gaming companies should be held responsible for such behavior as this is not the first time this is happening. It has become a norm. Capcom has released amazing game after game without any bugs/glitches and performance issues. If Capcom can do it, so can the rest of studios.
on the whole no MK is as deep as an sf game, intentional or not, but the drive system was created with the intent of taking depth away from the game.
MK1 because I'd never buy SF6. MK has all the character that SF never had and never will. SF is just a competitive game with an uninteresting normal world.
In terms of actual game mechanics, idk.
