Which controller are you guys using ?
I had been using a PS4 controller since MK11, but now that I'm playing MK1, I don't like the mushy type d-pad. Can anyone suggest which controller is good for MK1 ?

the XBOX controller d-pad feels great to me for this game
I use HitBox
Razer Kitsune and a couple of other All-Button Arcade Controllers from time to time and to me these are the best for MK1 and similar games.

I really wish to try an arcade stick, but it's too costly.
Stick to a ds4. It's simply the best in every way. You have to take it open and replace the rubber membrane pads every 4-6 mts (which is very easy).

The Razer Kitsune and HitBox are costly, but there are tons of alternatives on the market. Take a look for the Haute Pad M series for instance, which you can get for far below 100 $/€.
I use my 8BitDo Ultimate 2C. It works perfectly. The only issue though is I have to use the 8BitDo wireless adapter, but that's not the main issue here, the real problem is for some reason it stopped working on Switch even if I have wired Pro Controller communication enabled. So I have to pair the controller to both the adapter and the Switch back to back.

Logitech Wingman Cordless. I'll never need another controller. It's served me just fine for 25 years now.
8BitDo arcade stick.
Old school, fighting games are best experienced as if they were running on a PCB inside an arcade cabinet.

That statement contradicts itself, the controller wears itself out every few months because it's cheap and dated design, it uses a single rubber dome which is prone to misinputs because one cheap piece of material just blankets 4 cardinal directions, and as you say is short lived, by comparison the xbox pads d-pads use 8-directional individual mechanical style switches which both give more accurate inputs and won't wear out
Dual sense with a battle beaver installed .
