Why is this not fun
I keep going back to tekken 8 or street fighter 6 and have more fun. I cant explain it but those games feel enjoyable to play.

While any time I reinstall MK1 the combat and online matches feel like a chore :(

Then it's just not for you, man. I'm the opposite I like MK1 over SF6(Might have to buy Tekken 8 one day soon since don't look like I'm getting a new SC ever again) but you know you can at least say you tried it. Not every game pans out in the long run. Everyone has their personal preference.

This is so true if you take these games even slightly serious. I feel what you and Cheezie are saying. MK1 is garbage if all you want to do is bag a win online with your favorite characters but have to face the poorly-handled Kameo system against a tapestry of Reiko/Rain zoners, Johnny/Mileena clutchers, and wi-fi warriors all mixed together in slow speed game play capped at 30fps (for us PC gamers). However, in SF6, you get to experience just a little bit faster game play and a nice variety of characters. But, after a few matches online, and a few rank-ups later, the cracks begin to show. The Drive system in this game is too unbalanced. Certain characters can poke you out of nearly any attack when they attack you mid Drive Rush. It gets annoying when you're playing for footsies when you read the Drive Rush perfectly and try to counter, but the hitbox on the Drive Rush attack is somehow wider and you have no choice but to block. But, blocking, or dare you try to counter them or do a predictive parry, puts your drive bar at risk; and here's where this game gets painful. If your Drive bar is zero, there's hardly any other option for you other than to run away and wait for your bar to load up, unless you play a character with fireballs, because you start to lose health if you block attacks and if you're in the corner against an opponent with Drive bar left, you're susceptible to a monster combo setup that will cost you a good chunk of you life (kinda like MK1 with certain characters and their kameos). In both games, there are robbery mechanics and gambling.

It's just not your playstyle bro... Neither of the other guy in this section... That's why there is different fighting games, for different types of people. MK is kinda famous and all but just because it's famous it doesn't mean you have to like it, MK zoners are REALLY annoying for some people and all, kameo feature is not for everyone so... If you don't have fun playing it, play what gives you fun ya know?
It's kinda normal, i also just can't play Tekken or SF and have much fun because it doesn't fit my playstyle.

The only MK games which were genuinely and objectively fun, were the only ones which provided any freedom to gameplay expression: MK9 and MKX. All the other iterations of the game spanned Mugen level trash (the 90s games) to coma inducing e-barbiturates which all but played themselves (MK1).

Tekken 8 is watered down garbage compared to T7; SF6 is universally agreed upon as the most simplistic SF iteration since pre-super move era. However, irrespective of those games' glaring shortcoming, they are still in a different universe to MK1... NRS really did poop their diaper fetish nappies with this one, and I don't see they will ever recover (at least, not either the pro / e-sports scene); largely because they refuse to even admit that they dun goofed.
