You can also watch some of your replays and see what you could have done differently and such as you learn(I know when I start learning a new character/kameo I tend to forget about certain moves and remind myself that way). It's just a lot of trial and error. Don't stress about losing...everyone loses and I've never had anyone in my life go back into my records for any of the dozens and dozens of fighting games I've played over the decades(Killer Instinct, MK, SF, Tekken, Soul Calibur, DBZ Fighter, Smash Bros, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Injustice, Dead or Alive, Power Rangers, One Piece Burning Blood, Jump Force, rock em sock em robots...you get the point) and praise or scold me for how I've done. lol EVER.
imo, they made single player leveling harder so they could make more money from people buying game currency with real cash via DLC's.
I haven't bothered learning combo's yet. Vs ai they were optional in MKX and 11, but are needed to get anywhere in MK1.
Getting friends and practicing with them will also help.
I'm not playing this game against many people as I just can't invest the time it would take to get good to be decent online with this one but have in previous games.
Some random suggestions:
1. Play practice mode a lot.
2. Don't overly focus on combos that are very difficult to nail. Get a few 30% damage that are reliable when things are going fast and fine motor skills aren't at their best.
3. I'd say this game isn't as frame sensitive as SF but familiarize yourself with frame data, startup and recovery.
As for keeping sanity to not get overly down when things go badly, remind yourself that most people don't even play the game nearly as well as you will be playing...even as a beginner. Millions of copies sold and barely half will even attempt going online. There are so many different ways to play a game and when it gets to competition, it's just like any other huge popular sport in that there are many levels to competition there as well and some people can just play it all the time and some are just naturally gifted. Enjoy the process and have fun.
