How do characters "die" really

Ok so whenever a character dies in this game (not canonically or anything, like just regular fatalities and such) do they just get ressurected or does the game just say "♥♥♥♥ it, that never happened. Lui Kang just got split in half and were just gonna do a rewind. All the characters are back and alive, who cares don't ask why"

I absolutely know I'm probably just asking dumb questions for an answer that isn't really supposed to make sense, but it keeps bugging me

I think the angle they went for in this game is that when someone dies it's just a variant of them, which there are endless of. That's my head cannon at least.

it genuinely doesnt matter. its not important. its inconsequential. its irrelevant. youre literally right who cares dont ask why that ruins it
