Shang Tsung snake oil salesman intro.

A few spoilers ahead for those that have not played MK1 or watched any vids...









After the events of MK11....Liu Kang becomes supreme master of the universe when he defeated Kronika the time goddess... He then chooses to reset the timeline. And he supposedly gave Shang Tsung and Quan-chi meaningless lives to attempt to thwart them from their destiny becoming powerful sorcerors.

Kronika herself changed this outcome...


Early in the game (before Kronika intervenes) we see the great Shang Tsung as nothing more than a snake oil salesman, devoid of any real magic power.

And here comes today's Steam forum educational segment. For those that don't know, a snake-oil-salesmen is a term which I think originated from the wild west days. Someone would come to a town and setup shop and begin selling "elixirs". These elixers were sold as being cures for various diseases and ailments. At some point in time, the people realize they have been duped and they raise up against the snake-oil-salesman, in this game this person that came against Shang as a snake oil salesman seemed to remind me of a Vin Diesel type dude with a bald head and a ferocious voice. Claiming an elixer was bought for his daughter (I think) and she still succumbed to her sickness. Shang Tsung of course this is impossible, his magic could not have failed her. At this point the snake oil salesman has been exposed. Now they become a "fly-by-night" and move to a new town........far enough away that no one knows them.......new name.....new look....etc..............and start the scams all over again..
