Maybe Jade and Skarlet shouldn't return

It seems unlikely Skarlet returns mainly due to the appearance of Nitara, who uses Blood Magic or so, then she could be redundant the the roster, even with a very different movest.
As for Jade, she was mentioned as "Countess" which insinuates she might actually appear as DLC, possibly as playable fighter or just Kameo (though upcoming female Khameleon already imitates Jade) or just NPC. But I am afraid none of them should return.
In Mortal Kombat 1 the female characters are more bland, flat, sanitized and uglier or barely pretty as ever. I do not think Skarlet will look as gorgeous as she did back in MK9 and 11, and while poor Jade was put into a quasi-burka in MK 11 at least had a gorgeous face model but this time they will likely not even get this quantum of solace. So it may be for the best they stay gone and return in hopeful better times, especially with Ed Boon gone.

Ed didn't retire yet, but the guy acts much better as the "Marketing guy" than a good creative lead.

Lot of the core people from the original Midway MK team are still there... Steve Beran, Dan Forden, John Vogel, Tony Goskie, Mike Boon to name a few that I could recollect.

I am aware, although I no longer see this as a good thing, and I wonder how much influence they actually have on the creative direction of the franchise nowadays. The only OG developer I know still does a great job is Carlos Pesina, since the stunts, action sequences and movesets of the characters are still fantastic, let's face it. I suppose Dan Forden still does a good job, though it's a pity he no longer makes so much music.

Tanya is Jade by design and looks. Smoke is Jade because he's the best for Wi-Fi mashers. So yes, Jade shouldnt return. Skarlet is even more boring than Geras (which is shocking, how can you be more boring than AI-generated bald guy).

I could not disagree more about Jade being "boring", on the contrary. As much as I didn't like the forced romance with Kotal Kahn back in Mortal Kombat 11, I admit it helped to improve her character.
I agree about the rest, though. I am really afraid of how Jade will be butchered if she returns for Mortal Kombat 1. Tanya was beyond butchered, where her only previous trait kept and heavily enhanced was her lesbian relationship with Mileena, which was only insinuated in pre-fight dialogue in Mortal Kombat X and somehow turned "canon" in Mileena's Arade ending in Mortal Kombat 11. And Jade WAS turned Asian in mobile Mortal Kombat X, where she was whitewashed too. Imagine in Mortal Kombat 1, I am all pessimistic.

I personally would like to see new characters, tired of someone being killed and then mysteriously resurrected and all just to have some kind of story...bs.
