Buying and playing in Japan
Hey, Im currently studying in Japan and I really want to play the newly released MK1. Problem is MK is banned in Japan. However, my Steam account is still Thai (my origin country) so my question is: Will it be possible for me to buy and play MK1 on my Thai account even though Im in Japan?

Keep in mind that even if Steam lets you, you might be breaking Laws in Japan. You really should check to make sure as that will often get you Deported, even for a Minor Crime. Better to be safe then sorry when it comes to something like this.

I try to look it up and even thou its illegal to buy game from japan, there is no mention from playing it. However its better to be save than sorry.

So currently I am in Japan. I have been using a VPN while here so that way i could play on servers in the US with my friends. Personally i have never had issues playing MK1 at all even with being in Japan and playing online against friends. It is just a slight ping difference not even that severe. Highly recommend getting some kind of VPN that will help you in all games not just MK1.

Japan would never allow a game better than both Street fighter and Tekken to be sold there.

lol the Japanese market is so confident in SF, Tekken they have to find some lame excuse to ban MK to protect those other games.

If you actually new anything about Japan you would know its due to the Fatalities. They are CRAZY about Censorship when it comes to Violence, especially to this level. If they took them out they could see it in Japan, but I actually applaud them for not being willing to Censor.

Umm you must not know Japan well. When is their own manga anime doing the violence is ok. When is a fighting game that eats SF Tekken alive like MK, they would ban without blinking an eye.

Again it also depends on the Level of Violence, and Fatalities go beyond any Rating they allow in Japan.

I dont even know why I am bothering trying to have an actual Discussion about this with you, because all you care about is a Stupid Tribal Fighting Game War you have running in your head. Just ignore my Culture Lesson. I will leave it here for anyone else who cares.

Theres a fatality in this game taken straight from the anime Ninja scroll. I think NRS wants to send a nod to the FGC that Japan didn't ban Ninja scroll for its violence, but they banned MK lol.

Ninja Scroll was an Older Anime. A lot of what can be Aired in Japan back then no longer can. The 90's Berzerk was Canceled due to it being considered to Violent for its Time Slot. Anime like that can now only Air at Late Night, the issue is this is/was not considered to be a Profitable Time to Air.

Japan has different Rule for Different Media. The issue with something like MK is its considered to "Realistic" in its Graphics and Detail. The reason Manga can get away with some Subject that an Anime cannot, even when its the same Property, is because it isnt Moving and is rarely Colored (Thus no Red Blood). Problem is your basing the Rule of Censorship on how its often done in the West.

It's not a SF or Tekken issue. Something like Callisto Protocol got banned as well. Resident Evil game got censored as well. China has no fighting game and MK got banned also who care. Even if MK was sold there it would never beat SF or Tekken on it's home turf. They might as well bundle MK with a purchase of an Xbox.

Mortal Kombat is not banned in Japan. Regulations and laws make it hard for MK to sell in Japan but it's not illegal for people to have or play Mortal Kombat. Lmao it's not like Crack or cocaine.
