So I'm pretty sure Reptile has 3 guaranteed 0-10 matchups...
Baraka/Cyrax
Reiko
Raiden/Jax

I am getting absolutely stomped in GM right now. I've gone to training and looked for solutions. There are some... the problem is the mind games (specifically with Baraka) are so insanely easy to use and have almost no weakness when paired with Cyrax.

I think this is as far as I get in KL with Reptile.

I'm not online tonight and I'm not GM, currently Champion, but I main Reiko and I can play some Kasuals if it helps you on another night.

What are you struggling with against Reiko? I tend to to struggle against Reptile because they footsie me out of the close range I want to be.

had the same issue with reptile, you try to play character you enjoy but its simply useless against meta characters people abuse in higher rank.

Reptile's fun to play, he's my main for the first time ever in MK history but sadly compared to a lot of others he gets completely outclassed. Lizard man has no good overheads at all and only one low starter , rest is mid/highs. Enemy can counter everything from you by just holding down and block and easily react to if you're attempting to do the one slow overhead that can be used to combo someone for just 30+%..

Online you either pick one of the broken characters (Raiden or Baraka) or you might as well not try, unless you want to test your nerves.

It’s nearly impossible for Reptile to get in on him. I’ve tried out zoning him but the Acid Ball doesn’t actually reach full screen unless it’s EX.
Reptile’s slide only goes a little over half screen and is too easy to react to.
I’ve tried going full pressure, but if you’re opponent is even partially sentient and don’t fall for the spacing gimmicks, you will never open them up. Plus Reiko builds meter so fast with the shurikens that IF you do open him up, he breaks immediately.

Idk maybe I’m missing something, but it feels like a 0-10 matchup.

I can tell you that for 3 straight NRS games, I have picked the wrong character.

On GM I assume you play against the Darrius Kameo for the massive combos off the command grab?

As a total beginner both to MK 1 as to competitive fighting games aswell i cant say anything about balance of course, but are there really clear tiers already?Because my favorite char right now is reptile aswell and i try to learn fighting games while playing him but i dont know if i should switch or not. When i watch youtube Tournaments of MK1 the cast of characters played is very diverse, including reptile players, when i watch youtube tier lists from supposedly good MK1 players, he is always at least in the middle if not even A-Tier, but when i look at the ingame leaderboard for MK1...there is not a single repitile to be found, so i dont know if this is just because the best players happend to choose other characters, or if reptile at least on the top of the top level, starts to suck :/

A lot of people are using the S+ tier characters. I have seen a ton of Raidens, Barakkas and Johny in KL and I have never seen Tanya, Li Mei, Geras or Nitara or Sindel.

Yah I get it. I started with Reptile on this game too actually, and similarly ran into a wall where I was finding it impossible to open people up so I switched off him. I did have a bit of luck experimenting with the Scorpion kameo to bring a little bit of overhead mix into the toolkit, even though it's reactable, and there's potential there (also I recently fought a Reptile/Scorpion who was doing some pretty cool tricks - the scorpion fire can get you a combo off of the *full* B313 string with the slide ending, which is wild - so I think I want to go back and try it out some more)

I just got done with a match against Reiko and his Fatal Blow gets me while I’m neutral ducking and wins him the set. I’m looking at the replay with inputs now. I’m holding duck, DUCKING and he still hits me.

That’s a bug right?

What rank are you at? I've seen all those except Tanya, and only one Nitara, but have fought several people using Geras or Sindel and a *bunch* using Li Mei

I believe Champion. So far it's almost been exclusively Johny, Raiden and Kung Lao, the odd Liu Kang and poor Sub-Zero's in the mix

That’s a bug right?

Has to be, his Fatal Blow is a grab. Jumping can work, but Reiko can hold up to air grab, I believe. I never do that, I always forgot to up-block too.
