Remember, this isn't some F2P game, it's literally $70/$110 but the paid store is charging F2P prices with no alternative to earn the cosmetics through gameplay long-term. This just feeds into the idea that the game is rushed because there's no proper progression long-term
♥♥♥♥ I didn't know
I disagree with your perspective. You're pushing blame onto the players but it's actually WB Games enforcing these dark habits and FOMO. So really that blame is misplaced.
You're repeating the point that it could change in time, but my point is that it shouldn't have launched like this in the first place. There should always be ways to earn everything in-game; it's a core design principle, or rather should be. Again, it's not the player's fault that the game is intentionally poorly designed to push people to the premium shop.
There are multiple avenues to avoid this issue;
Honestly, there shouldn't even be a premium shop in a $70/$110 game, especially with the state the game is in currently. The prices they're charging are ludicrous for a single skin (again, compared to the $6 skin packs in prior games with multiple skins). It's not a good look at all
You can keep saying how it "should" be and how you can avoid your FOMO. Guess what? They WANT you to have FOMO so you combat that by not giving in. That's how they make money - on greedy little "everything-in-my-life-has-been-handed-to-me" whiners. There shouldn't be war, famine or widespread poverty either. Welcome to the real world - money is what runs it whether you like it or not. Personally, I hate it. But the world doesn't care about me - or you for that matter.
Again, the first, the very first MK, that I bought back on the Sega Genesis cost me $50 AND I had to buy a special six button controller to play it ($30 I think). Around $80 thirty years ago! Let me do some inflation math for you - THAT'S EQUIVALENT TO $177 DOLLARS TODAY FOR THE ORIGINAL MK. The game was locked with eight characters and (I don't know) maybe ten stages. Each character had.... wait for it.... one outfit! I had to punch in a code to get the real game with the gore intact. Now, for $70 we get twenty-two characters and dozens of beautiful stages. Want more? You can buy more to add to the game! WOW! I can make the game even bigger and better with more content! And the great thing is - it's all optional! I don't have to unless I want to!
Want to play dress up with your little dolls? You can buy more outfits! Or you can be happy with the 20 pieces of gear and three skins (I think there is a forth later in the level progression - I can't remember) that Scorpion has now with more to come that WILL be earned and free. But you want more right now, don't you? THEN BUY IT! Don't want to? Then don't! Angry about the way the economy of games and this one in particular work? Don't play or buy the game or its DLC.
Or whine on the internet. God knows THAT is how you create change.
If enough people DON'T BUY, they will change the practice. However, if people continue to buy, they will lean into that practice. Can you blame them? You would do the same if it were your product. I'm not "blaming" anyone - I'm stating how it is. You are blaming them for being greedy. Guess what? We all are! That's why you want all that content free!
BTW - the game is $70, not $70/$110. The game is $70 - period. If you paid $110, you received early access and extra content for that extra money. You paid for those items and privileges. Again, if you did not want those things, you did not have to buy them.
But let me add after all that - at the end of the day - I agree with you to some degree and I don't really like it either. But I also recognize that it will not change and I am not going to pay any more unless I'm getting more characters or actual content (Kombat Packs). I don't need to play dress up - I really don't care what my character (especially a character I don't even really care about playing) looks like. I do fear that eventually we may have fighting games where you have to buy each fighter individually and there are no customization options beyond what you buy, but it is what it is and the only thing we can do (as I have been saying all along) is speak with our money. They don't care what people say on the internet. They care what the money says. And if they are making it, they will continue doing what made it.
Remember this company has had competitive players on the pay roll for the "development" of this game and somehow we are expected to believe they had those people playing a bug riddled, crash prone, black screen prone, slow loading game, had them see how unspeakably sht towers of time aka invasions are and they all apparently said "yeah, thats a finished, polished game, sell it"
This game is so much worst than MK11.
