Well, "the option" to pay $10 for a single skin (palette recolours don't count) when in previous games you could get a pack of 3 unique skins for $6, in a game which is lacking content at launch is not really a good look tbh.

Remember, this isn't some F2P game, it's literally $70/$110 but the paid store is charging F2P prices with no alternative to earn the cosmetics through gameplay long-term. This just feeds into the idea that the game is rushed because there's no proper progression long-term

You keep saying there is no alternative to earn the cosmetics when that is absolutely not true for the Johnny skin and the others we do not know for sure. That is the very point I am making and that you are ignoring. As I have stated, since the Johnny skin has a way to earn it, there is no reason to assume that the others can't be earned in time as well. Again, if you want them right now, yes, you have to buy them. But that's on you and your battle with FOMO.

lmfao i can't with this game anymore... I logged in to the game to see what new things are in the shop, and of course same skins, still says refresh in 23 hrs.. I thought they finally fixed this.. This game needed at least another 6 months dev time..

Well, it's official now, on Twitter it's been confirmed that the Deception Scorpion skin is only available through Dragon Krystals. It's also been clarified that the store will refresh every week (as opposed to every day as implied in-game atm).

I disagree with your perspective. You're pushing blame onto the players but it's actually WB Games enforcing these dark habits and FOMO. So really that blame is misplaced.

You're repeating the point that it could change in time, but my point is that it shouldn't have launched like this in the first place. There should always be ways to earn everything in-game; it's a core design principle, or rather should be. Again, it's not the player's fault that the game is intentionally poorly designed to push people to the premium shop.

There are multiple avenues to avoid this issue;
  • Allow Seasonal Kredits to be converted to Dragon Krystals
  • Put all premium items in the shrine (and don't lock it off after so much currency is spent)
  • Add inexhaustible ways to earn Dragon Krystals

Honestly, there shouldn't even be a premium shop in a $70/$110 game, especially with the state the game is in currently. The prices they're charging are ludicrous for a single skin (again, compared to the $6 skin packs in prior games with multiple skins). It's not a good look at all

No, I'm not blaming anyone... at all. Meanwhile, you are looking for someone to blame. You just put your mentality and approach on full display. You want to blame and be angry at someone. Fine. Be angry at the creators of the game. Feel better? No?

You can keep saying how it "should" be and how you can avoid your FOMO. Guess what? They WANT you to have FOMO so you combat that by not giving in. That's how they make money - on greedy little "everything-in-my-life-has-been-handed-to-me" whiners. There shouldn't be war, famine or widespread poverty either. Welcome to the real world - money is what runs it whether you like it or not. Personally, I hate it. But the world doesn't care about me - or you for that matter.

Again, the first, the very first MK, that I bought back on the Sega Genesis cost me $50 AND I had to buy a special six button controller to play it ($30 I think). Around $80 thirty years ago! Let me do some inflation math for you - THAT'S EQUIVALENT TO $177 DOLLARS TODAY FOR THE ORIGINAL MK. The game was locked with eight characters and (I don't know) maybe ten stages. Each character had.... wait for it.... one outfit! I had to punch in a code to get the real game with the gore intact. Now, for $70 we get twenty-two characters and dozens of beautiful stages. Want more? You can buy more to add to the game! WOW! I can make the game even bigger and better with more content! And the great thing is - it's all optional! I don't have to unless I want to!

Want to play dress up with your little dolls? You can buy more outfits! Or you can be happy with the 20 pieces of gear and three skins (I think there is a forth later in the level progression - I can't remember) that Scorpion has now with more to come that WILL be earned and free. But you want more right now, don't you? THEN BUY IT! Don't want to? Then don't! Angry about the way the economy of games and this one in particular work? Don't play or buy the game or its DLC.

Or whine on the internet. God knows THAT is how you create change. :Owlcat_tongue:
If enough people DON'T BUY, they will change the practice. However, if people continue to buy, they will lean into that practice. Can you blame them? You would do the same if it were your product. I'm not "blaming" anyone - I'm stating how it is. You are blaming them for being greedy. Guess what? We all are! That's why you want all that content free!

BTW - the game is $70, not $70/$110. The game is $70 - period. If you paid $110, you received early access and extra content for that extra money. You paid for those items and privileges. Again, if you did not want those things, you did not have to buy them.

But let me add after all that - at the end of the day - I agree with you to some degree and I don't really like it either. But I also recognize that it will not change and I am not going to pay any more unless I'm getting more characters or actual content (Kombat Packs). I don't need to play dress up - I really don't care what my character (especially a character I don't even really care about playing) looks like. I do fear that eventually we may have fighting games where you have to buy each fighter individually and there are no customization options beyond what you buy, but it is what it is and the only thing we can do (as I have been saying all along) is speak with our money. They don't care what people say on the internet. They care what the money says. And if they are making it, they will continue doing what made it.

Yeah, of course it will rotate in and out of the premium shop multiple times over the course of the game's life-cycle. It worked the same way in MK11. However, that store uses premium currency (as the name implies) and whilst there are ways to earn that by playing, those are very limited and finite. So, there is a paywall there.

There is no clarity at the moment whether it will be possible to earn skins by other means, and if so, what those means are/will be. It's not even clear what skins are earnable in the game as they're hidden until you unlock them. In some ways, the system in MK1 is inferior to MK11. MK11 had multiple ways of earning premium currency throughout the game's life-cycle; it was possible to earn everything through gameplay. Whereas, in MK1 the number of ways is exhaustable (basically you get enough for 4-6 skins and then that's it).

Understandably so, some people are frustrated at the lack of info on this stuff and especially because they paid $70/$110 for the game and are already being told to pay for cosmetics when there are limited numbers of cosmetics in the game at launch

It’s a scummy practice and removes content. All while already overcharging consumers for the base game. A broken one at that.

You can earn about 6000 dragon crystals for free but that will only cover a handful of store items so you have to really pick your items if you want to avoid buying any with real money

Yes, let's all rush to spend even more money on an unfinished 2023 fighting game we have been charged full price for that has no crossplay and less than $5 spent on servers, oh also let's not forget it is the same company so inept that they couldnt fix the player 1 advantage bug in the timefame that they themselves set so they either A: lied as an exucse to buy themselves more time or B: didnt lie and the company are so ♥♥♥♥ and care so little about the game they have no redundancy servers. We should definitely rush to buy zero effort cosmetics to support the lazy scumbags at nrs.

Remember this company has had competitive players on the pay roll for the "development" of this game and somehow we are expected to believe they had those people playing a bug riddled, crash prone, black screen prone, slow loading game, had them see how unspeakably sht towers of time aka invasions are and they all apparently said "yeah, thats a finished, polished game, sell it"

I have micro freeze where I skip 5-10 frames (enough to be in a kombo) but yeah, the microtransaction shop is working just fine.

This game is so much worst than MK11.
