MK11 had the Krypt, grind hearts to unluck special chests, towers that gave skins and brutalities as rewards (though brutalities may have came later) and rotating towers with different difficulties (ranging from easy to very hard). I don't know if Brutal difficulty of the towers was there on release, if so, yeah, then there was also that.. The tower battles also had intro's, 2 rounds per match and just felt rewarding, even if it became a grind to some people.
MK 1 has what? Invasion mode? It's bloody dull, with only one piss easy round, no worthwile rewards and no intro's, which make the whole game so damn lifeless.
And yeah, I played MK11 on release. MK1 is a huge letdown to players looking to sink in hours on the single player content. And MK11 was even a huge step back from Injustice 2. So yeah, you couldn't be more wrong. Facts.. I guess.
It's designed to gradually release content.
This ensures the longevity of the game's lifespan before they announce the sequel.
The haters of this game, to put it in layman's terms, generally ignore the polished combat mechanics of the game. It's better than MK11 in that regard - and just about every high-end competitive player that's loyal to the MK franchise point this out.
I agree with all of this. It was rather disappointing to have a shrine with a flat cost, long repetitive animation for what really is just a single-item loot box after being spoiled with the krypt. Though, Invasions are kind of like a top-down krypt with small challenges. The shrine, I still hate sitting through.
If I want to see intros as someone who DOESN'T want to play online constantly, I can't. Outside of custom battles vs AI, there aren't intros in the game for us casuals. Even multi-round battles don't seem to exist regularly outside of versus. MK1 seems to have lots of single-player content, but it's so watered down that it feels like it's missing half the gameplay.
injustice and then mk11 set a standard for customization that s not matched by the current design in mk1, not even close.
in mk11 there were 6 costume variations (real design variations) from start with 8 unlockable palettes each (now some characters have 2 other 3 or 4 if you re lucky). Characters had 3 gear items to customize with at least 15 items unlockable from launch with quite a bit of design variation.
there was a decent system of towers of time where you could do a lot of rotating challenges
there was a character tower, there was the gauntlet, there was a krypt
should I go on? classic towers? More brutalities. Less content behind the store crystals. Bigger roster. DLC came with 4 costume variants
To add to the injury, if you play mk1 story mode you can see there are more costumes that could have made it, like old Raiden and insane permutations when climbing the pyramid. They have it, but they don t unlock it because they want to sell it to you.
So no, mk1 does not cut it. Not on customization, not on UI, not on available online features, not on the level of polish, etc,
Fight Game play and stages are good, so I hope they save it.
I played mk from the original franchise release, but there are different standards these days and the studio and WB ARE RICH AF, so there s no excuse.
The live service model is starting to become a trend to increase longevity when for the most part its hated by the community.
While DLC content and such being added in a staggered fashion is ok, core features like wifi filter and crossplay are things you had to have on day 1. Not having that was just not acceptable.
Also this desync issue apparently is still not fixed. Consoles had a patch to fix it but people still had desyncs even with the patch. Not sure what is going on tbh.
As far as content is concerned, invasions is here to stay but it definitely needs some kind of overhaul as majority feel its repetitive and boring. The devs really need to come up with fresh ideas to keep it interesting and engaging.
