MK1's Online is Not "Peer-to-Peer" -- It's Server Side
Like much of the game's "offline" play, online, the game runs through a server, and must make a connecting to the server before the game will join players online. This is likely why there are so many "black screens of death", general lag and desyncing problems.

This is proofed by the fact that those regions where there are no local MK servers (e.g., the Middle East), players get 300ms connections with opponents in the same region -- i.e., because their signals must relay through an EU server in order for them to play. Moreover, the 50~100ms connections between mainland U. S. players (I get <20ms in AU SF6, and Oz has garbage Internet), is more evidence to this effect.

So, unless the game's core net code is changed, such that it no longer has to connect to through servers -- highly unlikely, as it's obviously a deliberate decision to have it work this way -- the online component of MK1 is about as 'good' as it's every going to get.

First few minutes outlines the issue:

I still think this game uses P2P.

No one can change my mind.

Until I see some valid proof from NRS or WB themselves showing a huge server where everyone connects. Maybe then I'll believe it.

I thought it was hybrid. Uses the MK servers as you need to have a connection to them no matter what. It handles the matchmaking, when you are matched the match connection is direct between you and the opponent, however you still have a connection open to MK servers. If you lose connection to MK servers it severs your P2P connection

Righteous is right.

It's more of a hybrid but in terms of connection in fight it's pure P2P where WB server handle only accounts/stats/disconnects etc...

Pretty much every fighting game from last decade is P2P for obvious reasons.

In essence, the matches are P2P as you said. A dedicated server would effectively double delay (ping).

I don't think it really matters any more, what connectivity system the game uses... For if that were the shovelware's only problem, it would be doing just fine.
