Right now there 13k people online playing the game. Lets say the ratio of single player to multiplayer is awful and there are only 1000 people actually playing online. That's more than enough for a fighting game - it's not like you're going to have to scratch around on Discord to find a match (not an insult, lovely Discord communities) and it only needs 2 players - it's not like some Battle Royale that needs 100 just to kick off.
MK1 is absolutely fine. and even if you DID want to compare it directly to RE4, please consider that RE4 has a pretty huge installed userbase, was critically acclaimed for the most part and just dropped an extremely good value DLC.
You really do need to get a grip. Wringing your hands over a game with over 10k people playing in on Steamcharts even more pathetic than having a panic attack over Twitch numbers.
