It's just me, or the name "Mortal Kombat 1" feels like a bad naming choice.

Sure, I'm just nitpicking there, and I know that this game takes place on a brand new timeline, but it feels like a confusing choice to name this installment "Mortal Kombat 1."
Why not name the game "Mortal Kombat: The New Era," or etc. Plus, don't mention that this title and the first Mortal Kombat will be confused later on, and what if they made a sequel to this game, "Mortal Kombat 2?"

Overall, I'm still interested in buying this game when the gameplay is revealed. Can't wait!!

The original one was called Mortal Kombat and there was also Mortal Kombat (2011) which was actually Mortal Kombat 9, this one is called Mortal Kombat 1, also you could say the same for Saints Row and Dead Space whio did not change name in their remakes

This whole game is a bad choice. The name, the roster, the story, the idea, the female representation and costumes, the friendliness and lack of grit, the console favouritism. The new “era” concept which is code word for wokeness. I’m not buying this at their inflated 89.99 CAD. Too bad NRS and WB. You’re not getting my money this time. Huge MK fan and I’m disgusted with the direction these games are now going. Who the hell did you put in charge? Cause it’s clearly not the same dude from the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Yes, we left the golden age of gaming a long time. It could have named it Mortal Kombat Arisen or something but even with the name I surely hope the game play is good for it is I do not care what they call it. Lately they tinker so much with the formula that it may not be as good as the first one and some go out on preorder and then for them it is not what it was not what it was hyped to be which is why I do not rely on trailers as they are designed to hook customers.

John Tobias had NO real influence on quality beyond art direction. Ed Boon was the one that had more influence actually programming the game play. While I appreciate John's style it didn't really move beyond the typical ways young men learn to draw and he wasn't really that good.

He was behind the story and lore of MK up until MK4 . And thats all that really matters to me in this franchise
Its a personal thing, i dont care about the gameplay at all , to me MK was always about the characters ,the mythology , the atmosphere. Tobias is one of the most talented artists i have ever seen drawing and a really creative world builder. You can disagree, of course, but thats art, so ... subjective and stuff

Reading his two MK comic book tie-ins, his sketches ,coloring, i love all that s**t .

After him , the story and lore had never the same quality , and the fabulous chinese fantasy, mystical atmosphere was slowly fading

After WB aquired the franchise it went from dark chinese fantasy to Super Hero Kung Fu But i have hope that someday some of that atmosphere will be back

got a good giggle out of this tho, because after seeing this post, and going back to the store main page on the "FEATURED & RECOMMENDED" tab i saw MK11 and next tab across had MK1 on it XD

...talk about good timing lol
