I was also a stick player and played on the madcats ergonomic Mk layout created for the game and it was amazing.
Imo they kind of ruined stick play in the latest games with how they changed the control scheme to be more of a mana burn situation with a dedicated button where you used to press block and the attack button of your choice at the same time, now its much more awkward to use stick and most people have moved to pad which I hope they revert to the previous method or at least give options
My friend competed in a Guilty gear strive tournament with buttons shoved into a piece of tupperware and they smoked most the competition.
High level players use w/e the ♥♥♥♥ they feel like using, or building their own within whatever restrictions are in place for the tournaments they go to.
Pretty much this.
It's clear NRS is developing the game around pad use - because that's what the bulk of the playership who'll use the consoles default input will use.
Despite that, you could hook 12 buttons up to a brook board with a USB connection and rearrange them however you want and it would work just fine. I've played contemporary MK games on a stick and it's works great after you adjust. But personally, I use pad for these games because the inputs are simply not fast/difficult enough to justify something like a hitbox/arcade stick.
I actually want to see more of these tournament players join PC side. Another tournament player, Mightunjust was on the PC leaderboard for awhile. I was watching some of his mk11 replays. He was toying then destroying some of the well known cheaters. It was nuts.
