Fight stick/arcade stick
I have not played MK since MK9. I was top 100 on the xbox leader boards on that game. I had the MK9 limited edition fight stick. that was in 2011. I am wanting to get back into MK when this one comes out. So my question is what fight sticks are high level players using? I am looking to purchase one before release. Thanks!

High level players are using pad or keyboard, mk doesn’t use quarter circle movements so it’s useless to use a stick

really? I have never been able to use a regualr pad on fighters. I have a few fight pads but I dont prefer them. That answer is actually surprising to me. It used to be fight stick or nothing 12 years ago. I do remember MK having no quarter circle inputs though. MK9 was that way too. However the stick was much easier for me.

The fightsticks without an actual stick seem to be all the rage now. I just call them button panels.

Are you referring to those pads with the 6 buttons and a d-pad on the face? I own one of those as well. Its not bad I am pretty good with it. I use it on tekken 7.

I think he's referring to "hitbox" or "mixbox" style controllers. Basically, the actions are the same layout as on an arcade stick, but the joystick is replaces with four more buttons for the directionals. I'm a fan of them too

ohhhhkay I know exactly what you're talking about now. I have never used one but I will look into one of those as well. I could also see how a keyboard could be superior due to no quarter circle inputs like the first guy said. I would just imagine that is pretty difficult to learn being someone that has always used a stick/fight pad like the one I described.

The hitbox controllers feel pretty similar to using a keyboard (mixbox even more-so) but they're more intuitive because they don't have to worry about keys the game doesn't use and they're more usable at in-person tournaments

I was top 100 on xbox leaderboards as well in the mk9 era and even had numerous encounters and stood toe to toe with top 8 evo Players like forever king and My god but I never took it seriously because the netplay was absolutely garbage and you were basically playing a different game online.

I was also a stick player and played on the madcats ergonomic Mk layout created for the game and it was amazing.

Imo they kind of ruined stick play in the latest games with how they changed the control scheme to be more of a mana burn situation with a dedicated button where you used to press block and the attack button of your choice at the same time, now its much more awkward to use stick and most people have moved to pad which I hope they revert to the previous method or at least give options

My friend competed in a Guilty gear strive tournament with buttons shoved into a piece of tupperware and they smoked most the competition.

High level players use w/e the ♥♥♥♥ they feel like using, or building their own within whatever restrictions are in place for the tournaments they go to.

Yes after I made this post I read up online and saw a lot of people saying this. Kind of turned me off to stick unfortunately. I may start on just a regular pad and possibly get a hitbox or mixbox if the pad is uncomfortable for me. I know keyboard is also an option, I just accidentally hit the wrong button all the time in games so I dont know if a keyboard would be good for me lol.

Pretty much this.

It's clear NRS is developing the game around pad use - because that's what the bulk of the playership who'll use the consoles default input will use.

Despite that, you could hook 12 buttons up to a brook board with a USB connection and rearrange them however you want and it would work just fine. I've played contemporary MK games on a stick and it's works great after you adjust. But personally, I use pad for these games because the inputs are simply not fast/difficult enough to justify something like a hitbox/arcade stick.

I actually want to see more of these tournament players join PC side. Another tournament player, Mightunjust was on the PC leaderboard for awhile. I was watching some of his mk11 replays. He was toying then destroying some of the well known cheaters. It was nuts.
