Microtransactions in MK1
So, there's a listing on the Xbox Store[www.xbox.com] which finally reveals their exact purpose;

This is interesting as it reveals the existence of colour palettes and gear which are separate from skins.

I do think it's a bit harsh to pin this all on Ed Boon. I feel like these directives are coming too down from executive management at WB Games.

One thing I do find weird though is that Hogwarts Legacy, another WB Games game, based on such a massive IP ripe for exploitation doesn't have any MTX. Is it because it's a purely single player game? Who knows?

That's most likely a big part of the reason. Cosmetics in online games are more a status symbol and a way to distinguish yourself than anything else. People are less likely to buy single player cosmetics that only they're going to see.

In MK11, the "Krypt" had a strict, finite cap on what it would unlock through its various content nodes (chests, Shrine, Kronika ball); after which point, the 'content' reverted throw-away "consumables".
Aaah, so that's why it has stopped after I unlocked a certain amount of costumes... Good to have some clarification at last, thank you. I found that really weird, were expecting just to sit there spending millions of coins, that were grinded through AI endless tower(with the Stolen Riches consumable), but the Shrine just stopped giving.

JCVD is KP1.

I just want the classic outfits, if they charge for them I'll pass them, although the game as a whole feels less exciting every day.
Yes.
It's because most consumers don't have their own critical thinking and analysis skills.
So DOA is the "Worst" untill an influencer says otherwise.

I also have a feeling that they will implement the inconvienent pricing, just like Street Fighter. Meaning everything will be priced so you have money left over. That legit the only reason they have imaginary currency. To fk u over.

Edit: Shaoh gets it.

The first 2 weeks of mk11 were brutal grindfest. Perform 75 fatalities/brutalities to unlock the tower (think it was 2&3 stage of character towers). 50 fatalities for a severed head in the krypt. I remember they patched it few times to a reasonable 10-15x and sent an apology message to players with some in game currencies as compensation.

Hope they don't make that ♥♥♥♥ again...

Just do the seasonal grinds. So many entitled players just want everything handed to them.

When I buy a burger I got to pay microtransactions to get cheese. Get used to it.
But at this rate, with every passing sequel giving less and less content, it's like we're buying only the bread with not even a piece of meat.

The other problem is the ability to pay to skip the grind cheapens the excitement and feeling of accomplishment behind getting new stuff. Remember how cool it was as a kid before microtransactions were a thing to unlock something in a game your friends didn't have and feel like you really earned it? That experience is totally gone now. Sure, you CAN still "earn" the stuff through grinding, but you'll always have the lingering thought that you could just pull out your credit card to end the monotony. Also, when I see someone with expensive cosmetics in any online game, I don't think "this guy is a master at this game!", I think "this guy wasted his money." It's a lose-lose situation. I know it's just the way things are now, but don't defend it.

That's the problem. It's designed to be tedious and boring so paying money to skip it seems preferable. Unlock requirements weren't usually like that in older games.

Whatchu mean? 2B and her skin was free. Well, if you saved up some gems for her, the secondary skin is free though.

Yeah, I did the same, but had the worst 10 pulls to get her though. Something like 10 times……

You can do the seasonal grind and such, but WB/NR knows…….well this been studied for years that only a small niche does that. The vast majority does not and ppl still to this days hasn’t grasp to that reality. Why do you think these predatory practices exist in these games such as mortal kombat and hasn’t been challenged yet? Because we have gamers telling gamers to ignore it and…..Years Later! It’s gotten worse.

They need to repeat what they did in MK11. Top gears cannot be purchased.

I remember when MK1 kombat league 1st season ended. All the players walking around with that silver red Erron black costume looked like gods. Cause they made top tier in KL season 1 and got the prize. This format is fair.
