MK1 v. SF6
MK1 looks like last gen, terrible animations, and the characters have no personality. Looks like Street Fighter 6 just blew MK1 out of the water.

edit:
new trailers confirm that MK1 actually looks amazing.

Okay, then go play SF6 then. What are you doing here? :winter2019joyfultearsyul:

Why you riding? I play street fighter 6, and I can say they both look good enough. If that's how you feel about the game, dont get it

After MK1 outsell SF6 in the first month of release, we should all troll the SF6 room.

MK always outsells because it's made for casuals. but sales don't mean the game is good. look at the Madden series, or Fifa series for proof of that.

SF6 is aimed at casuals now too

Dude SF6 has modern control scheme for ultra casuals. You press forward to do a 65-hit super combo.

That would be true in previous releases but not with SF6. They have a whole easier control scheme adapted for casuals, even an autopilot mode for offline too (the AI literally plays the character for you, mostly). And a lot of single player content aimed at casual players too

i have SF6. I understand what you mean that SF6 is opening up to include more casual minded players. But even SF6, with it's Modern control scheme, and GTA-esque open world campaign, is not as casual friendly as the Mortal Kombat franchise.

MK1 so far looks like exactly what I wanted out of a new MK game, looser combat mechanics, better combos, more combat depth, better meter system, interesting characters...etc. Finally we will get a new MK game with some SAUCE, unlike MK11.

Also the haters can say what they want but I have always enjoyed the impact that MK games have compared to many other games and I feel people over exaggerate the "stiff" animations of newer MK games. In the gameplay trailer you can't tell me the Kenshi gameplay and especially the Lui Kang gameplay looked "stiff". Its looked very smooth and stylish coming from the very grounded and slower pace of MK11.

I clearly have MK bias because its my favorite FG franchise, but to me my biggest turn off for SF6 is it has boring/bland characters compared to MK. SF also has boring lore/character backgrounds, while MK is probably the best and most well known of all the FGs (with tekken close to it).

Not all new MK characters are a hit (like many 3D era MK characters), but most mainstream MK characters have much more going for them then SF characters and are integreal to the main plot of the games/timeline.

Even KOF, another franchise I like better then SF, has much deeper/interesting characters then SF. With SF6 the new characters to me are GARBAGE (hot take i know).
- Yung and Yang have been replaced with Jamie lol.
- T Hawk has been replaced with a little girl.
- Kimberly was a replacement for the OG ninja Guy (she is also a very played out stereotype for black characters).
- Marisa is just a strongman with boobs.

Overall the new characters of SF6 are just very uninteresting and try way too hard to be unique imo.

The one thing I can give to SF6 is the gameplay does in-fact look good, animations look good, I love the details the RE engine provides (muscle flex, sweat, realistic fat jiggle...etc) the world warriors were done well along with their classic costumes,...etc. There are many good things I can say about SF6 but the biggest thing that makes me play fighting games is CHARACTERS, and are lacking in SF6.

Also ONLY 16 characters at launch for SF6? KOF14, Tekken8, MK1, all had/will have a much bigger roster at launch, so whats the excuse for SF?

Just slight correction; SF6 launched with 18 characters. Still below what should be standard for a launch roster tho imo. I think around 24 is reasonable for a 2D fighting game

Tekken 8's closed network test (basically beta) has 16 characters and its release date is not even confirmed yet so it's very far off. I would guess it's early 2024. Tekken has had a strong roster in its fighting games since the PS2 games though.

Honestly, the graphical improvement between last gen and current gen is barely noticeable at this point for anything aiming for "realism." MK1 has brighter lighting than MKX and MK11, but the quality of the models is about the same.

SF6 does look great, but SF4 and SF5 had weird art styles so it's easier to notice the improvement.

Oh my bad thanks for the correction, and yeah Tekken having a beta with 16 characters is crazy lol. I don't even think T8 has a release date, yet it has 16 characters and I assume much more to come.

Yeah, there is. When Harada was asked how many characters to expect in Tekken 8 the response was

I think it's a lot more than Capcom-san.
Of course, character modeling, rigging, and costume design are all new assets, so it's hard work.
That's why we're trying to increase the number of launches.

So basically, expect "a lot more" than 18

Ouch even taking a jab at SF6 lol. SF has always been they type of games where they release with a barebones roster and by the time the super extra ultra deluxe edition comes out there will be twice as many characters then before.

I prefer a decent roster at launch then making it small just to build it up over time.
