As I said in another topic, Tanya was black in MK4 before they retconned her to Egyptian in MK Deception, and because this is a new timeline it doesn't affect the old versions of Tanya (or any of the characters for that matter).

The problem I have is that they made her just a generic warrior woman, or as someone else put it, she's a legally-distinct Wakandan in MK. She may as well be a completely different character, but they made her Tanya instead. Which feels lazy in multiple ways, including not just making new characters for this new timeline. I still remember Geras was revealed shortly after MK11's confirmation, but we have seen no new characters in MK1's roster (guests don't count obviously). Just a disappointment all around.

And in regards to MK9's female designs: Yes the faces were ugly, but it was because NRS never really knew how to model female faces properly. As early as MKX (or even Injustice 1) they were making bad female faces on purpose for the sake of modern sensibilities. It's as simple as that.

Not to play devil's advocate here, but people, who say that huge boobs are "unrealistic", are funny as ♥♥♥♥.

Huge cup sizes are natural but very rare in the grand scheme of things, it's just how the human genome can work in regards to things like wildcard genetics. But the people who hate large breasts also hate nature, and have been trying to make their own version of science to shape things as they see fit. They never really hid that fact from the public.

These companies……I give them praise, a round of applause. Because they have successfully groomed the masses that women are more attractive the uglier they get. I don't know if it's willful ignorance, mental illness (which is common, get help if you can), or just plain stupidity that makes it so hard for people like you to accept that other people just have different preferences. What went wrong for "companies are grooming the masses to find ugly women attractive" to make more sense to you than "everyone has different taste." It's both fascinating and sad.

I think both Tanya and Li Mei look awful. Just from a purely technical view this looks like a game that is at least 5 years late with these god awful character models and cutscenes.

To be fair I have not seen a public outcry about Li Mei. Most comments everywhere are positive about her.

Tanya, a different matter. She has great move sets, but her looks are really hurting her appeal.

Simple solution is to get her an iron mask or full face mask to cover her up entirely. Don't let people see this face scan.

The main problem is that many companies made it clear that no other choices are allowed to exist. Because as you said, everyone has their own preferences, but nowadays only one group's preferences are being catered to while the rest are being insulted and told to get lost. It's not hard to see that a lot of different body types are basically being thrown away in favor of the "approved" ones, and the products that actually provide choices are either heavily censored in our regions or are becoming rare as it is.
