Traveling the Octopath........

Hi, friends!

I recently purchased the original Octopath Traveler and am enjoying my time with the game very much. Based on what I've read and seen (please don't get into any spoilers) the sequel improves on the original in every way and the plot deals with eight *other* characters. I'm wondering is there any reason to play the first one before the second? Do the stories have anything to do with one another, or are they standalone - like Final Fantasy, or the Twilight Zone....? I might just hop into the second one if they're exclusive.

dunno about that, but the game is lovely. There are some dangerous areas, so be sure to run away if something.

Hehe, I’m about 8 hours into the first one and I get that there plenty! I’m just wondering if Octopath I has anything to do with Octopath II

They aren't related at all. First one is still worth playing but for many people playing the second one first kinda ruins the first one since it's missing so much QoL and other things. I'd say keep going with the original since you started it, and then get into the sequel later on.

i dont think they have anything to do with each other. theyre all different people. but of course the universe is the same with OT1. so there is things linking a little bit. 😃

They are pretty much standalone. 2 has one side quest line culminating in a superboss that is a direct reference to 1, but that's about it. There are various other shared facets like the main church/religion being the same, but I wouldn't describe them as references or think that knowing 1 would matter for your understanding.
