Would it be advised to start with OT1 before playing two?

Unnecessary, they are stand alone games. I enjoyed 1 but a lot of people say 2 is better to the point you don't need to play the first. This game has an easter egg about the first game but that's it.

There is a single side quest line culminating in a superboss that is a reference to the first game; all other content in the game is original with no real ties or references. It happens in the same world, so there are some commonalities, like the main church is the same one as in 1, but nothing that would require the first game to understand.

Most people who played one hate that two is "slightly improved, but mostly the same as 1" so that's what me decide to just buy two and stick to that.

It was a fun game, but not getting 1, or buying any sequels to the title personally.
