Controls not working on Steam Deck

I just purchased the game yesterday and I can't get the controls to work through the Steam Deck.
I've tried different settings and a few other things but something is wrong.
If I hold down the Steam button the track pad starts to work, but the buttons do nothing.
I need to pull up the keyboard to move around in the menus, but don't see any settings in game, or out of the game that appear to help.
Has anyone else experienced this before and know how to fix it?

I haven't had any trouble, it works great on the 'Deck for me.

When the game is open, have you tried to switch controller settings on the 'Deck? The default one or whatever it's called should be selected and work fine. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, I can check later if need be.

im having same issue. no alt control schemes work. i am just stuck on the initial config screen

i figured mine out.

i pressed the steam button then under controller settings i press reorder controller and steam deck appeared as 2 instead of 1! changing to 1 fixed it

I think there must be something else wrong with mine.
When I open the deck control settings while in the game I don't have a reorder option.

I'll keep trying different stuff.

Ok, I figured it out on my deck finally.
95 minutes of playtime to get it working.

So while in game I did the following:

STEAM button then,
LEFT - back into the Deck menu (not the game menu).
SETTINGS, then went to
CONTROLLER, and all the way down to Non-game controller layouts.

I then hit the Cog icon and chose Reset Controller Layout to Default.

After that the controls work.

It appears to have found/loaded a custom controller layout for the game that is now listed in the STEAM--> (game)Controller Settings

The controls are now working for me.

Hit the steam button. Controller settings. Look to the top on the right side beside the question mark in a circle. If your deck has been set to 2 there will be a reorder button. This happened to me because I connected a controller which was then set to 1. Not sure why it doesn't switch back as soon as you turn off the controller. Turning off Bluetooth doesn't even switch it back automatically.
