Save Game Files Continue Disappearing(?)
Hi all,

I've seen a few others posting about losing their saved game data, and I believe my problem is related.

After downloading the 3-Hour Demo for the game, I decided to buy and transfer my data to the full version of the game (purchased via Steam). I played for the rest of the night, making multiple saves. No PC crashes, nothing peculiar happening.

The next day I boot up the game and cannot click the "Continue" button on the start screen. I Google'd some stuff and didn't find a whole lot other than people with the Steam Deck having issues transferring their data from the Demo to the Full game, so I sucked it up and started a new game.

After 12 hours of playing and making multiple saves, I boot up my game today to see that I cannot select the "Continue" button on the start screen again.

Since then, I have tried to verify the file integrity through Steam (no issues found), uninstall and reinstall (multiple times), and I have tried backing up my save files from the "My Games" folder on the C Drive (default) and placing them back into the folder after these steps.

Most recently, I started a new game to create a save file slot and tried to manually add the save game files back in, but the game does not recognize them when booting back up. Oddly enough, I have tried running the game after deleting the saved game files I JUST mentioned (with the steam cloud turned off prior to this step), and the game is somehow able to still load these newly created save files even though the "My Games" save folder is completely blank? I suppose there may be another folder these save data files are pulled from.

Anyways, if you're still reading, I'm hoping there's someone who has also encountered this issue and has a possible solution.

Other than this issue, this game has been really great, and I hope to recover my save file to continue playing.

Thanks!

Try this:

Open the game, make a save. Doesn't matter what.
Take one of your old saves and overwrite the new one with the game still open. Now go load the save in that slot.
The graphic when you select it should look like the new one, but it should load the old one just fine.

Okay, so, when you say "overwrite the new one with the game still open," do you mean take the actual game file in the folder and replace it with the old one? Like, replace the new "SaveData1.sav" with old "SaveData1.sav" file?

If that's the case, for some reason, the new game I most recently made did not produce new saved game files in that "My Games" folder path; I can always do a fresh install of the game and see if it will produce the file there then.

I have several "save" type of files in the folder I backed up. I'll list them below, but let me know if there's anything I should know or do with them:

- SaveData1.sav
- SaveData2.sav
- SaveData3.sav
- steam_autocloud.vdf
- SystemData.sav
- SystemData_Trial.sav

I'm guessing that last file is from the 3-Hour Demo version, which I feel like might be the root of the problem due to the file transfer that happens?

Anyways, thanks again for your help and your quick response - going to look into it.

Yes, exactly.

Yeah, - SystemData_Trial.sav is from the demo save, you don't need it at all.
It sounds like perhaps your folder permissions aren't working right, that's about the only thing I can think of, though why it suddenly would stop working I couldn't tell you.

But when you create a new save can you go back to the main menu and reload it? if so, they are being saved SOMEWHERE, so maybe so a search on your computer for 'SaveData1.sav' or 'SystemData.sav' and see if anything comes up.

Sorry for the late reply. I realized that the folder issue I was encountered was due to OneDrive holding the real "My Games" folder that the saves were being sent to. After copying the save files into this folder, it fixed the issues, so thank you for the 'switching the files' out advice.

I wasn't really sure why the game chose to save to this folder, unlike many other games I have, but oh well. I'm happy just having the file back.

Thanks for the help!
