What does Masoud's Mercantile Manuscript actually do?

What the title asks? I'm not sure what this is really telling me? Use something called caitnip for the caits? That's about it? Seems pretty anti-climactic unless I'm missing something.

It is. It more or less gives you lore/worldbuiling stuff as well as some tips. I am not sure if you have to do this since you can finish Partitio's story by just buying the ship. You see, for the Scent of Commerce Quests, you have to do at least one of them in order to finish Partitio's third chapter. But you will need the ship anyway to get to his Chapter 4 location so you might as well just do that. They may all be required to do in order to access the game's finale though.
