The solution is to do more damage. I just dumped him before he really got a chance to drag the fight out.

Oh think i got it now. When it Observers it will remember all attacks used until it's stunned and then it starts to counter those.

Oh apparently it just dodges boosted attacks.

Couldn't quite nuke it hard enough to avoid the dodge counters.
From what I ran into it triggers the counter on boosted attacks and all latent power attacks (boosted or not) from characters like Hikari and Ochette.

Got the boss down to red twice only to die to the counter before i read up on the mechanic... I might have gone *♥♥♥♥ it* and cheated.

The npc's talks about a curse if there is a "party of eight" exploring the ruins. So round up as many civilians as you can! \o/

Thanks! I found after you open the way with a party containing 4 followers you can fast travel out and change your party. The way remains open.
