Should I do all the characters chapter 1 quests?
I started with Throne, and am now doing Osvald's chapter 1 quest. These take a while. I feel like if I do all eight starting quests, which take a couple hours each, it's like playing the start of the game eight times.

What do you folks all do? I think I want to play each character's starting quest, but it will really delay getting into the meat of the game.

Hmm . . .

the standard way is to do all 8 chapters then move on to the next ones

but you can just make a party of 4 (i'd recommend Ochette and Temenos since you started on the east side, as they've been split up evenly in terms of path actions)

then just finish their stories, then go back and do the other 4 if u want

this may require some grinding at times since you're removing a bunch of XP by doing all character stories

Thank you. I think I will do each character's beginning story as I find them.

What do you mean that I'm removing a bunch of XP by doing their stories? It seems to me that if I do their starting stories, they gain six or seven levels during them. I'm not sure what you mean by removing a bunch of XP.

So, I've got Osvald now, and am doing the Temenos chapter 1 story now. Once I get him, I'll have three characters in my party. Throne and Osvald are level 10 already, and I haven't even started Throne's chapter 2 quest to get Mother and Father.

The Mother quest is only level 7, and I'm nowhere near it because I want to get the party members rounded up first. It seems if I gather everyone I'll be WAY over-leveled for the chapter 2 quests.

Something feels wrong about playing this way. Should I be worried that I'll be way over-leveled, or just go with it and do what I want?

Your starting character will always be overleveled due to trying to work with 8 different characters. Eventually that starting character can be unlocked to swap when you finish the Chapter 4 for that person. The downside is that you need other characters in the party on par with the level (or a bit less than that) as you finish Chapter 4.

I did finish OT1 twice - and I just did Chapters 2 for everyone, and then Chapters 3, and then Chapter 4 first for the starter to unlock them.

So I would try and get all eight characters now, and then rotate them when leveling.

Something to note: Your starter character will not be part of the game for the 7 other characters, meaning she won't get any xp that way. Yes right now she's level 10 you said, but unless you grind for xp a lot she won't go super high either, because every time you recruit a new character, she (and everyone else in your party) are temporarily removed. Don't know what you'll be exactly once you recruited everyone, but it's not gonna be, like, super high or something! I'm guessing 15 at most

You should do what's most enjoyable to you, it's part of the roleplaying and why the game is set up this way. Personally I like to make a close-knit group of 4 and complete all their chapters, so that way it feels more intimate and makes the stories easier to digest. Then I do the other group of 4. But it's really up to you. Maybe you can go hard on roleplay and pretend a particular character hates the cold, so you never bring them into the snowy lands. That probably sounds silly, but the point is you have the freedom to do whatever makes sense to you.

You're absolutely right, Tiwill! In fact, I was thinking that I was going to gather the three other dudes near Throne, and do all their quests. And ignore the other four on the Western island until later. Fun stuff!

I skip the companion quests and intend to play them separately later. Otherwise it's just too disruptive for me.
