How much grinding?
I loved everything about the first game EXCEPT the mind numbing excessive brainless grinding. It forced me to abandon the game. I came back to it to try to complete the story lines, but couldn't do it. PLEASE tell me it isn't a mindless grind fest like the first one.

I don't grind much so far, just get money and buy latest equipment and try to break enemies.

I never had to grind in the first game, I kinda assume people that had trouble with it weren't really exploring/ buying better equipment, because equipment is actually REALLY important in these games.

If you ain't grinding then how're you even affording the equipment? It's all SO expensive.

it's really funny how there's literally a thread that was right above this one complaining about how they are constantly too strong just by playing some of the stories. and then right below it (some) other people complain about being too weak and having to grind all the time.

quickest way would probably be steal and beg. mug if you're willing to invest the time into some duels. random encounters also provide quite large sums imo. the classes thief and merchant both grant you the option to steal from bosses in boss fights. the merchant also has a skill that earns money according to how much damage you deal. some items that can be stolen from people in towns are worth 5.000 - 15.000 and half the time it isn't even being guarded by a high level limit or strong duellant. in addition partitio can hire people who increase sales values by 25% or more, and decrease purchase prices by up to 20% or possibly more. so if you really want to purchase a lot of equipment instead of trying to find it in red chests, quickest way would be to first steal loads of expensive items and then sell all of them at 125% value with partitio.

There are characters that can help you get the money.

So far I didn’t have to grind at all, once I got 4 characters I decided to pop into another city around level 15 in strength (I was 8-9) and I leveled up to around 16-17, if your looking for rare encounters or more in general I recommend staying in night mode

Nobody grinds for money, this game makes you spend hours grinding just to make level requirements and then even when you’re 10 levels over the requirement the boss is still overpowered and unfair

Never had to grind in the first game, nor in this one so far. As for the question of how you get items without money: Throné during the day, Agnea and/or Osvald during the night! :p You can get a fair amount of equipment that way!

So, yeah, don't worry about grinding too much, but do check out the NPCs you meet: They have the items you need!

If you're not familiar with path actions then you can be undergeared for a lot of the content. Conversly, if you're familiar with the game and the mechanics, it's very, very easy to overlevel and overgear the content quickly.

I had to do a decent amount of grinding, similar to many games; however, a pro for OT II is that there are more opportunities to get resources, like $, EXP, & JP.

Some of them come from support skills, some directly from equipment that give you more of a resource, or indirectly, that improve your chances for finding Octopuffs/Caits, which give a big multiplier on all resources (exp lean from Caits / JP lean from Octopuffs).

I basically had as much farming related skills/equipment as possible when grinding, and it helped a lot, not to mention, you can recruit a certain someone later, giving you a chance for massive mulitplier to XP or JP.

Normally a game like this would have been a must-buy for me, however I gave up on the first game because of the grinding. The gameplay loop in the first game was spend 2-3 hours just walking in circles fighting random encounter enemies to level up to the point where I could continue playing the story, then spend 20-30 minutes playing the story, then have to go back to grinding again before I could continue the story. If this second one is the same I'd rather spend my time playing something that respects my time more and is less tedious.

Again as others have said, you didn't need to do that in the first game, and you don't need to do so in this one either. You'll be around the recommended levels by the time you reach new chapters usually, and as for weapons and armors, you can use Path Actions on NPCs, steal them with Therion (in the first game) and Throné (in this one).

The game can be challenging at times, more so than many other jrpgs, sure. But with the right weapons and armors, and with a good understanding of the gameplay, you can manage, in both games

I mean, I'm currently on the final chapters of my characters! Beaten Throné's, Temenos's, Agnea's and Ochette's final boss, and the only character that was above the recommended lvl 45 was Throné; everyone else was around 40. And I didn't use her for the Temenos, Agnea and Ochette's fights either. Like I said, it's very doable

I definitely did need to grind in the first game, I would often be 7-10 levels behind the recommended level in order to get to the next chapter, and have to grind to catch up. They also made it really hard to grind because there weren't enough level appropriate areas, ie. I would be level 38 and the only places to grind were level 33 and 43, so I risked dying every fight if I tried to grind random encounters in the level 43 area which meant it took a long time having to redo the battles when I lost, whereas if I tried to grind the level 33 area it took a long time to get enough experience because you get so little.

I don't even remember anything about the game's story, all I remember is the constant grinding. Actually I think I just talked myself out of being interested in this game at all, I'm getting annoyed just thinking about the first game
