Version 2, Desktop Magic Engine:
* Simple Engine. Cartoon style rendering. Use 10% GPU.
* One dance routine for each dance file.
* Need to convert VMD to unity format.
* Have limited fixed idle motion. No voice for motions.
* No lip-sync.
* Accepts model format: MMD, PMX
Version 3, DesktopMMD3
* HDRP Engine. High quality style, but many people don't like it. Use 30% of GPU.
* One dance routine for each dance file.
* Need to convert VMD to unity format.
* Have many fixed idle motions. Double-click will invoke customized "action" with voice. A cool feature but severely under-utilized. The customized actions are lip-synced, if the dancer has proper "emotion" settings.
* Accepts model format: PMX, MMD, VRM, and Unity bundle.
Version 4, MMD4 - Born To Dance
* Simple Engine. Cartoon style rendering. Use 7% GPU.
* Up to 3 dance routine for a dance file.
* Direct VMD import. No need to convert.
* No idle motions or customized actions. Have "poses" but not really useful.
* All dances are lip-synced if the dancer has proper "emotion" settings.
* Accepts model format: PMX, MMD
All 3 have a hidden feature called "background effects", which I use in my helper program. Very cool feature but don't know why the author didn't use it in version 3 and 4.
Contrary of what you were saying, most people here got MMD4 for free, because they bought MMD3. This update is free.
And the reason MMD3 development was interrupted, basically is you scumbag users complained so much about a $4 software.
I have DMMD4 in my library, can you guess why? It doesn't make their behavior any less ridiculous or worthy of criticism. If they weren't generating enough revenue they should have turned to crowd funding or increased the price of their product. If they hadn't pulled this absurd ♥♥♥♥ where they re-release every time they want to make a major update, I would have gladly payed $10-$15 for this. The fact that someone even had to make this post is unnecessary. Their product is clearly unfinished and yet they won't go through Steam's proper channels for a product of that nature.
Why you assume this program was written by a corporation or a group of people? This is just one man's effort to bring dancing girls to your desktop. You think his move is absurd? I saw so much criticism, so many negative comments about MMD3 that could had driven anyone mad !
Give the developer a break. This is not something that you and I can have easily done. It takes many years of programming experience and a strong-minded persistence to finish. In the end he even gave it out to the old users like you and me for free ! In my opinion he already did his best.
If you are so gladly pay more money for better MMD programs. Please go and pay them. You don't go to 99cent store and expect a 5-star hotel experience. So please leave this program alone.
