Spear vs arrow damage issue

If I shoot an arrow at a Peccary and hit, it takes periodic bleeding damage which seems to make it go slower (or at least stagger slightly when bleeding). If I take my obsidian spear and throw it into its side, it will shoot off at top speed, taking my spear with it.

Yeah, I can now follow with concentration mode, but I think it should at least have the same sort of debuff with a spear stuck in it. Or maybe I should save the spear throwing for stuff that doesn't run away so fast.
