Because the wording was confusing, you said once you smelted copper ore you would receive the blueprints for upgraded machinery (tanning and the ones for the logs to make planks) The smelting gave me the blueprint for the upgraded for the carpentry, not the tanning upgrade.
I didn't know that strong branches came from the cannonball tree, the problem with Copper Island is that it's very difficult to explore with the over population of Tegu that attack you at every turn, I can't even count the number of times I've died on that island, I get in and out of there as fast as possible, and I missed seeing the cannonball tree, and when I went back to look I only found one, I tried to look for more but died a few more times in the process so I gave up and went back to Hope Island with the strong branches that I got off of that one tree. At least now the upgrade tannery triggered and I can finally make it.
Do not forget to sink your points into learning for the additional point given at reaching level 6 skills. Makes a huge difference in what you can unlock and this is why I started a new game.
The islands of Buffalo Region are difficult at the beginning. You do have to prepare a ton, with water, medicines (Hibiscus is a MUST as well as poison medicine) all sorts of materials.
I always build a dock and a house first, equip it with enough water and food, big branches long sticks, wide and narrow leafs... you get the picture. THEN and only then I go and explore, usually at night first.
At Hope, before you go back, collect as many boar, picary raw hides to manufacture dried leather. Also craft builders kits, for I always build a small 2x2 hut at the farthest mine (16 builders kits plus one long stick for the door) Inside build a leaf hut for maximum (before tipi) energy replenishment. Tipis you can not build inside houses, I tried, leaf huts yes. Also, collect the algea, red and halymeria, make seaweed outfit.
Now that you can upgrade your tanning station, make a set of leather clothing for which you need leather pieces (dried leather, water and bark) Best way to wear this is during the day and change into leaf outfit late afternoon to early morning.
Also have enough obsidian for spears and knifes.
I have had 7 tegus attack me, one after the other in very quick succession in one area, there are usually more tegus in the game than appear on the map.
Take advantage of the Bejesus soup, fruit soup.
You do know if you open up the crafting and hit the little icon beside the word blueprints that looks like an eyeball, it says show/hide locked blueprints. From there, you can click on the item that you’re looking for and it will tell you what you’re missing to unlock it.
If you’re not sure where that item is located because the map isn’t opened up yet, I usually just Google the item. Like right now I need iron tree branches to unlock the next forge so I will just Google that and find where it’s at.
As far as the hides go, did anyone say which animals dropped the original rawhides that can be turned into leather? Not the Tegu or the other stuff? So far, I know the Boars and buffaloes do but I can’t remember the other animals. Once you get the excellent tanner workbench, you’ll be able to click the eyeball icon and see that Rays, Caimans, and rabbits can also be processed, but I can’t find anything that says which animals drops the original raw hides.
