I personally had also built a second base and docks near the shipwreck on copper island since is the only location that doesn't have a hostile spawn nearby
In the early alpha build it was better to build inland (such as on the stack of rocks next to the jungle found by heading inland from the starting beach). These days with more islands and regions you really need access to a dock, making all good main base locations coastal.
I might try racing inland next game and building at the end of the river/inlet. It is still fairly close to the jungle and has lots of resources around.
In Buffalo region I was going to build a base on Copper Island, but Red Island has a lot more resources so I think I'll build there instead. Still need a small outpost on Copper Island for staging raids on the copper mines.
The beach area between the cave and the bay is a bit interesting because the fps feels stable there, in fact once you are somewhat settled, it doesn't really matter where you build because you can easily get around and if needed then have a small outpost to drop stuff off in :)
Only thing is now, when the 3rd area becomes available I'm likely to need to set up another "main" base there as well.
The Tier 3 Raft has a log holder that can carry 6 logs.
I setup a satellite base on Copper Island. A couple of workbenches, canopies, and a tepee. I have my main processing base on the Island of Hope (smelting and leather making). As for the other island I just make a dock on each for quick travel to and from.
It's doable on a Very Hard run, by crafting the backpack, grabbing the forest statue water perk, living off the land and moving through the mountains for bamboo to descend the north western way and heading to the end of the inlet within the first few days.
Really happy with the spot as you still have access to the jungle resources, no major predators and a closer dock then you can normally get at the starting beach.
Yea im pretty stable in my very hard run now, i just rushed for perk points into better water and food and it makes thing so much easier.
That's were i go on hard cuz no scorpions & there is a half collapsed roof above the ancients
stone box thus resource efficient & already a loot small box + the fire place is safe from rain.
All resource that you need in bulk are close by the boars for thread, big branches, long
sticks, liana & banana. The ancient stone road is free of pests & leads you to the narrow bay.
I like it cuz its central & so mining obsidian is chill, the south mountain you need only visit once for clay, bamboo/reed & bow wood IF you have a backpack & cart that is.
It also looks cool & once u build ur primitive lamp it looks like a lighthouse.
(pro tip never extinguish the lamp & ignite ur torch on the lamp, to use it as a always 100%
fire starter. Saves you time, resources & you can craft stuff with a very low chance of injury in the night.) The animal fat burns a LONG time.
Towards the end of the demo this location became more popular among some experienced players. These days though it's too far from the water. I'd get frustrated with doing cart runs backwards and forwards. When you fast travel back from Copper Island or wherever in the mid game, you usually just want to hit up your med's and water and crash out right away.
Still, in the early game it can't be beaten for resource gathering.
