It is more like The Long Dark in many ways, most things you do require time which is then fast forwarded with a cost on your vital stats like if it was done in running game time, time skip is a big part of this game, so if you are thinking coop or multiplayer then it is pretty much out of the question for this game compared to those you have mentioned, but if you are into a hardcore and very challenging singleplayer survival simulation game then this is a really good one :)

Ah I wasn't too fond of "The Long Dark" or hardcore games in general, thanks.

You can compare it with Green Hell and The Forest. Just without this permanent stress with any cannibals, mutants, monsters or thousands of animals who want to kill you. There are of course some animals that will attack you, but thank god it's limited. Fountain of Youth is a very relaxed, but also very extensive survival and crafting game. You have endless possibilities to occupy yourself meaningfully away from the plot without asking yourself why am I doing all this at all. There are countless crafting options that are gradually unlocked. With almost every item that I craft in any way, a new crafting recipe results. I've long since finished the storyline available so far, but I still spend countless hours doing other motivating things. So I've moved to the beautiful islands a few times already, I'm building a new home, I'm currently building a clear warehouse for my countless items and resources. I keep going to the other islands with my catamaran to get the resources I need. It just feels totally like Robinson Crusoe. Survival itself is real work, and there's a lot to do in order to make life reasonably comfortable. For me it is the best and also the most beautiful survival and crafting game ever. Especially the relaxed way to play is what I love very much. Its defenitely no comparison to a Long Dark. Fountain of Youth is very relaxed to play without missing the fight for survival

Stranded Deep, Green Hell, and Long Dark are the closest comparisons imo. But as the poster above says, it's much more relaxed than Long Dark or even Green Hell. More about exploration and story. First couple of days can feel a little overwhelming until you get the systems figured out but I never felt stressed at all.

How do people compare a Green Hell vs a Long Dark? I like the real time, swing an axe at a tree mechanic vs node harvesting. I think node harvesting is much easier to program, but it stops the game from allowing multiplayer.

That said, I have no issue with this game. Very happy with the isolation and lack of friends which turns many survival games into a joke camping game. The isolation is a huge part of the atmosphere of these sorts of games and doesn't get enough acknowledgement as a big part of the survival genre.

It gave me sons of forest vibe and miasmata but better. The only long dark thing is the time passes as you loot imo. Aside from that it's not like long dark.

Also there was a free survival game set in desert made by some uni students i forget what its called but it's like that too.

Overall it's not completely like any other game

It's called Arid. Not bad and it's free like you same.
