To get more clay you need to search for where the ants are living ;)

The first time I visited Copper island, I forgot to bring a shovel.
I entered the island from the wrong side but found a small plateau where I could jump up, I fell into a hole and ended up in a small cave, and guess what I found there?

I found it ;) I also found horseweed, but somehow I can't pick it up.....Maybe a bug I don't know, but it is really annoying. I am right there :'(

When you explore the island you come across 2 water wells. There are clay pieces there.

Also, once you find them keep in mind that you have to build the machinery for forming and baking the clay pot, but you can always dismantle one to build the other.

No, each well area has several pieces.
