can't dock here not enough space

I built a dock on the south side of the Isle of Hope near where the Big Mosaic and the sacrifice platform is, but when I try to dock I get a message 'can't dock here not enough space' I tried moving it further from the platform but same thing. Anyone know what I am missing here?

It's a bug, reloading game can resolve it.

Or just go around and come in from the other side of the dock. So if by default the boat is coming in from the left of the dock, you go around and come in from the right then press "DOCK"

Neither reloading or coming in from the other side of the dock solved the issue. It turns out it was simply too shallow. I added a third foundation piece to get the dock out deeper and that solved the issue. I had the same issue again at the grotto, and same solution. Thanks for your comments though :)

Also, usually you can move a bit out of place, hit dock again, and it will work. the auto dock function seems to not work all the time when traveling between docks.

My other issue is that every time I "fast travel" between docks, by boat takes 65+ damage when docking... this seems a bit much? I am not THAT close to any rocks etc.

I had the same issue, and then i just built the dock parallel to the shore, not perpendicular like i did before, and like that you have all the space since your boat is parallel to the dock (and shore) and you get down by the other side, you can build it very close to the shore like that.

I've just tried to build a dock on one of the new islands. I've tried 3 different locations multiple times, various designs, further, nearer, side, paralel... even vertical to the shore if it would let me. No use, it's impossible to make it work. Anyone has experienced this on the new islands?

Try setting pierce foundations out from shore, 3 or 4 should do, then place dock at the end of the foundation

Can't. I only can place two consecutive at most before the game won't allow me to put them anymore as shown on one of the screenshots. Also, i've found very difficult to place a cannopy near the place. Something is blocking construction on most of the place.

In regards to 841 picture (second from last): sometimes I do have the "can't dock here, not enough space" on my Hope Island dock fast travelling. Then when sliding just past it a little and towards shore, I can still access the "Dock" F button and it works then. Annoying but it works.
As with Windy Island where you can not build a fire inside the cave opening (only just barely outside), maybe you are not supposed to be able to build there?

I think it's some issue with construction on the new islands. Messed up collision meshes or something like that. Docks in the "old" zones are working as always except for the fully built catamaran taking damage when docking. I hope it is not by design. Forbidding fast travel to the new islands would be grind because yes.

I have the same issue. It only happens with the catamaran (the canoe works fine; I don't have the schooner yet). I've tried building the pier as long as I can before placing the dock, placing the dock perpendicular to the shoreline instead of parallel, and approaching the dock from different angles. Nothing works. I've tried on three different islands (Hope, Iron, and I think it was Copper) and they all failed. If the seas are rough, the ship will also get damaged when I arrive by fast travel, since it will immediately undock once I arrive.

There is a much better place to build a dock if you sail around the island. There is a cave with an old encampment and a puma which doesn't respawn once killed. It's easier to place platforms and there's easy access to the mines from it.

That is where I built my dock, I'm thinking of building a second home there. :) The location is still troublesome for a dock though (at least for me). I can only build the dock out so far (I think 4 platforms before I have to place the dock), and the schooner has a difficult time getting out of the narrow little cove without hitting the dock or the rocks on either side.

I have done some more testing and can now dock the catamaran (as well as the schooner, which I now have), but I almost always get damage for colliding with the dock when I do it, usually ranging from 70 to 120 points.
