We've discussed this internally in the past, and the reason why we kept Q and E this way was because before update 3.0 it made more sense, and we didn't want to mess it up for existing players: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1967510/discussions/0/3426698343832938687/?ctp=3#c5291222404428573488
We might consider an option for inverting it in the future though :)
Cheers,
Anyway, I hope you folks give us an option to invert it, because I understand you didn't want to mess it up for old players, but it's already messed up for new players like myself that are not familiar with how the game used to work. Again, I really liked the game, this is just a tiny issue, but it got me so confused that I opted to just not use the feature, because dealing with the puzzles at hand demands enough of my attention that I can't bother to also focus in reconditioning my muscle memory of the controls. And, honestly, I don't even want to, because in the current state of the game I would be conditioning my brain to think backwards -- I know trains come and go, so this is somewhat relative, but the whole game prioritizes a left-to-right direction, just as we are used to because of how our written language works.
