People are having problems to play online this might explain why there no rooms available.
Devs should have a look at this and perhaps provide some details about the online play
It is believed that the problem might have to do with NAT restrictions, so here are some common solutions :
Port Forwarding:
a. Open your router's management interface, usually by typing your router's IP address (such as 192.168.0.1) into a browser and logging in.
b. Look for "Port Forwarding", "Virtual Server", or similar options. This is often found under "Advanced Settings", "Network Settings", or "Advanced Network".
c. Add a new port forwarding rule. You'll need to specify the port range and protocol to forward, and map it to the LAN IP address of your computer.
d. Save the settings and restart the router to apply the changes.
Enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play):
a. Access your router's management interface and look for the UPnP option in the settings. This is usually found under "Advanced Settings" or "Network Settings".
b. Ensure that the UPnP option is enabled and save the settings.
c. Restart your router to apply the changes.
Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN):
a. Download and install a reliable VPN client and follow its instructions to log in to the VPN service.
b. Connect to a VPN server and ensure that your network traffic is routed through the VPN.
c. Launch your game and try to connect to multiplayer games or servers.
Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
a. Call your ISP's customer service number, explain your issue, and ask if they can provide any assistance or solutions.
Use IPv6:
a. Check if your ISP supports IPv6 and enable IPv6 on your router and computer.
b. Access game settings and ensure that the game server also supports IPv6 connections.
c. Connect to the game and try joining multiplayer games or servers.
Hope this helps!
Port triggering or forwarding makes sense, but you did not tell us what port/s and protocol (is this udp or tcp?) needs to be forwarded that's the all point of doing port triggering or forwarding, that I go on the router page for port forwarding than what If do not specify the port number and protocol ? And please do not tell us that we need to put the PC in DMZ
Also what is the vpn for? Can you image if all the games to play Online would require people to setup a vpn what chaos it would be?
"Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP)" this is like washing your hands.... Sorry but your response is not very helpful if you do not provide more details.
Kind Regards
Not a good look
These kind of network issues were solved decades ago. Forwarding ports is also only useful if you are hosting, and no ports were specified. If you are a client you don’t need port mapping. Routers maintain their own port mappings as part of the NAT. This definitely won’t help anyone trying to play with someone else on their own wifi. That will end up forwarding all the packets to one player assuming they even egress the router.
VPN? What? How is that even a suggestion? If customers are reporting all other games working fine, the problem isn’t with the customer.
Hi guys, sorry about the poorly constructed response. I was anxious to reply and just cut and paste the solution when it was given to me, without first checking through the solution myself. Looking at it again now, it was badly put together, and I apologize about it.
To give a little context, when we originally receive connection issue reports, the assumption was that it was either due to EOS (Epic Online Service) instability or because players tried connecting to a player where the connectivity was so bad, that it just disconnected upon connecting.
For the first issue, the EOS instability didn't last, and worked soon after. And for the 2nd issue, we added the display so players can better understand the connection status of the room they are trying to connected to.
It was only after the recent patch that a player approach us saying that he was still facing problems, so we were able to tackle this issue more specifically.
We manage to deduce that this is due to the player's NAT setup and we've informed the player. According to him, he has a double NAT situation, which he was able to overcome by plugging his gaming PC directly into his modem. For now, if you like to fix it immediately, you can try doing the same.
At the mean time, we are also trying to create a new testing branch that negates this issue for you guys to try (hopefully soon). If it works, we can patch it into the game.
Lastly, it's important to mention that if you have this problem with your NAT set up, it likely means that you face the same problem on other games with P2P connection. This means that either you can't connect to a game, or you connected with a lowered internet connection. Unfortunately, that is not something we can fix within the game itself.
That said, this doesn't affect games that uses delicated server (Fortnite, Apex Legend, etc). Only P2P games.
Hi,
The majority of people would not have a double NAT(basically a router connected to another router) it is quite a particular setup could be this person have servers at home or perhaps he/she was trying to play the game from an office enviroment during break. If you deduced that the double nat was the issue so why people are having problems to play this game online? I dont have a double natting configured at home. I been playing other games just fine, now if we want to keep with the same types of games I played the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge a lot online as well as Streets of Rage 4, which I assume are p2p?
Indeed there was some lag depending to whom I was connected too but overall it was playingable.
I have a 1Gb connection (upload and download speed is 900mbps) so quite fast I should not have too much of an issue playing with other European gamers with a decent connection.
In regards to "he was able to overcome by plugging his gaming PC directly into his modem." do you mean that the user added his computer to the DMZ? Now days router and modem are bundled in the same box.
It would be very useful do know what ports and protocols are required for the port forwarding so I can give it a go and let you know how it goes.
Thank you again for the response and thank you for the game, it is a lot of fun to play:).
Kind Regards
We can connect to each other no matter who is hosting, which I think would be impossible if the router was dropping downlink packets to the game port. But as soon as one of us joins the other, the host gets booted instantly. We play several other P2P games.
Since you still seem to be suspecting NAT issues, we really need the port numbers to forward to rule that out. I'm not going to open every port.
That said, if there aren't dedicated servers, why can't we just connect to play locally on the LAN and not even bother traversing the NAT? I know the local IP addresses of both devices, I don't need to look him up via steam username which I assume is the only reason it is going to the internet in the first place in this scenario?
We have prepared a build for you. Here's how to install
1. Go to Steam, find and right click on Double Dragon Gaiden, and click on Properties.
2. Within the property window, go to BETA on the left, then insert the access code DoubleDragonsAllowRelays and hit Check Code
4. Make sure to install the build for both players
5. Once installed, you can try to connect as you usually would
I understand you guys have asked some other questions at the same time. I am not the technical person, so it would be harder for me to provide a confirmed answer to everything all at once. But it would be useful to try this branch first, while we continue to investigate.
I tried the code but seems not working, I get an error message "Beta Access code is invalid"
Kind Regards
