Basically just mod your money to a value like 999,999 at the start of the game and play through it normally. After you're done beating the game you'll end up with over 500 tokens which is more than enough to buy out every single shop item / character.
I felt this on my first play through, I had to gimp myself just to end up with like 18 tokens at the end of the first run and I just gave up even bothering.
I spent like 2 hours beating the game the first time and I was like there's no way I'm doing this 20+ times... I have no time for it.
So the fun isn't grinding. If it was we would have gone with persistent upgrade (over multiple runs). The fun comes when you try to take higher risk for higher reward.
If we were to remove it entirely, then all that is lost. That said I think what you are trying to say is that you do like to see the characters, but you didn't felt it was replayable enough, or at least you do not wish to replay that many times.
Out of curiosity though, how many hours or how many runs do you think is an acceptable number? We might or might not change according to your suggestion, but your suggestion will help us evaluate. Much appreciated!
PS. Lastly, you can also use cheats as NeoRizer mentioned. However, as all cheats, it tends to kill any longevity of a game in exchange for a few giggles.
You get what you put in. So if you are setting everything on easy, you are going to get far less than if you give yourself a challenge.
I am less than 5 hours in and have unlocked all the characters. It took me a while to figure out how everything works, but If you really want to know how hard farming can be, I was making on average about a token a minute.
Here is how I did it:
- Set all levels to high, and permadeath.
- Run Anubis's level - which takes about 12 mins a run. (i timed it today while playing because my wife was coming home and I wanted to get through as many runs as possible)
- Focus on lots of crowd control, beating everyone with special (definitely including the boss), and letting the enemies blow themselves up by stanting on their own dynamite.
- Do not buy any powerups. Instead get the cash bonus.
- Start the next level. Quit. Then cash out.
I would get anywhere from 11 - 14 tokens depending on how I did each run. Average was 12 tokens....and each run was about 12 mins.
So no...i don't think it is too hard to stock up the tokens once you figure out how to play it for max money gain.
Nice to see that you've already worked out a strategy, haha
Gaiden by comparison allows you to unlock multiple enemies after your first clear and then you can play through the game again as different characters, earn more tokens, rinse and repeat.
Yeah I've had the best time teaming her and Willy up, farmed most of my tokens with that duo.
I prefer my primary as Chin, and backup as Linda.
