Leaving XP on the ground and walking away.
What happens to it? Does it stay there indefinitely or does it despawn? If it despawns - is it auto-collected similarly to when drops spawn out of bounds on Level 2 and 3?

Thanks for any insight.

It's there until the end of the game from what I can tell. It does not auto-collect. Picking up some upgrades that let you collect XP more easily early in on a run can do wonders for increasing your score.

This is actually a big problem but it seems to be a game design choice, the EXP eventually starts causing the game to slow down and it's just not very efficient to try picking it all up, you usually move around in battle so you end up with lots of little piles too small to bother with but still enough of them cause FPS issues.

I feel like the pick up range upgrades should also function as a suction to pull in all the EXP on the map the first time you choose them to clean up the map, it would make choosing those upgrades actually useful but not overpowered since you are using 1 level to choose it but you might get the level back from all the loose change EXP on the ground.

This is part of why I play the Temple more and more. Limited arena size and the enemies are more interesting.
It just stays there and gets forgotten since you're pretty much always moving between the large hordes that drop clusters of exp. Really wish they'd just copy the vacuum from Vampire Survivors in someway so I feel less like I'm missing pickups.

I'd play Temple more often if the 2nd boss wasn't an absolute cancerfest on D15.
