anyone else feel the batgun needs a bit of a buff?
nothing crazy just it was ok when i played darkness 0 and 1 but once the enemies got more health in darkness 2 it was almost impossible to kill anything with how slow it shoots, how low the damage was and how slow you move with it while firing

If anything I think it needs to be nerfed. Did you know it counts as a summon? So all summon damage/attack speed will apply to it. It becomes even more OP if you ignore bullet/summon damage and go for on-hit effects. Play as Spark with the batgun and with a few upgrades you can just hold fire and the game plays itself

I struggled with the bat gun until I switched from the RoF rune to the damage one. Then it became a breeze.

I will also add that the summon damage/speed not only stacks with bullet damage and fire rate, it does so multiplicative. If you get +50% bullet damage twice, it will add up to +100% bullet damage. However, if the Batgun gains +50% bullet damage and +50% summon damage, the game will multiply your damage with 50% twice (150% damage multiplied by 150%, resulting in 225% damage) instead of adding them up, meaning you effectively have +125% damage. Dealing 225% damage instead of 200% damage may not seem that chocking, but the advantage gets crazier the more you stack summon damage/speed and bullet damage and fire rate.

It's also OP with Abby. Oh, I can trade accuracy for attack rate? Well let's do that with homing shots and laugh our way to the bank. :steammocking:

You don't even need to kill stuff with it - freeze + more projectiles + spread + fire rate... easy win. A bit boring but its always a win

Not only is it the strongest weapon in the game it's also the most versatile being able to build it pretty much any way you want since it scales with absolutely everything. I pretty much avoid using it because it makes the game far too easy. Don't even have to aim at any point of the run. So no, it would require to be nerfed to be in-line with any of the other weapons. The only weapon that needs a buff is the magic bow and only because there's only really 1 or 2 ways to build it with far too few upgrades increasing its output.

If you're having issues staying alive, remember you can always just stop shooting and move out of the way a bit

At the start of a batgun run, I usually let something else be my main damage dealer just one on-hit and/or flat damage upgrade and you're good to go.

Here is a few tips for the very start of the run to make things easier , on your very first upgrade try to choose one of these skills In order of importance.

Double Shot , this entire tree is great for Batgun (split fire should be 2nd pick) so starting here is a good idea. An extra projectile is functionally a 50% attack speed and damage increase. If you can follow it up with Split shot you are good to go.

Frenzy summon attack speed works with batgun and this tree is absolutely loaded.

Haste , followed by run and gun, being able to move and shoot is the biggest increase to survival early on.

Some more tips , batgun projectiles are homing and start with bounce , Bounce will make the bats hit an enemy twice. so more bounce means more hits , splinter will make an enemy explode into 3 small bats with short range and homing,

On hit effects are great with batgun because the bullets are homing and hit multiple times , so more chances for on hit to take effect.

Your goal is to get more projectiles or attack speed , summon attack speed ASAP, after that work on some way of making your bats kill things , more damage, on hit effects , pierce , bounce for more hits etc.

For tomes Tome of Elasticity and Tome of Summoning are good ,Tome of Rage can be ok if you only take one , Tome of Speed plus the evasion/dodge tree is a free win. Tome of elements if you went elemental on hit is a easy choice with no downside but take the other tomes first if you don't have them.

Don't play batgun with any of the "summoner" characters like Hastur Raven (Lillith is ok but nothing special) not only are those characters pretty bad the batgun is first and foremost a GUN , the summon damage and speed boosting it is just a benefit,

Play Abby , scarlett or spark to maximize their character abilities with the batgun.
