Report a translation problem
My chief complaint about the first game was the time constraint; failing if you didn't unlock cages in time.
I was hoping the free mode in this sequel would loosen that constraint.

There are some differences between the "regular" and the "free mode" here and there... but you'll get the biggest difference when you get to the alleged last day of game! ;)

Yes, to unlock the "free mode", it's mandatory to see every cage in the game, which involves finishing the "regular" game an unspecific number of times (it depends on which cages you get in a single game), buying every cage available in each game, including the Multivision double cages.

Yes, those cages count the same, no matter if you activated any of the bonus modes.
