Road to Vostok

Road to Vostok

[Feedback] Footsteps should be louder, Enemies should have an SFX for spawning in.
In counterstrike I can tell where enemies are in relation to me by the sounds of their footsteps alone. In vostok, I keep dieing to enemies who appear behind or next to me indoors and outdoors. I keep my head on a swivel scanning for movement and I clear my corners like this was EFT and a rat could be hiding in every bush and corner, but I keep dieing to NPCs who appear behind/ beside me whose only audio cue is their first shot.

Do the NPCs make footsteps? Is there a way for me to turn those up so that they are audible, like ComTacs in EFT?

Is it possible that the NPCs are just spawning really close to me? I'd not having any trouble spotting and 1 tapping enemies at a distance, only finding the ones closest to me to my sides and behind me. Its as if I can clear an area, walk forward a bit, and they'll run in from somewhere else/ spawn where I just cleared to get at me. I'd have better luck diagnosing my problem if there were a Debug option to enable a directional audio cue for when enemies spawn in. Like a chime or a tone, or maybe if spawn protection proves too complicated to implement by the early access, a voice line that plays like EFT's scavs make that alerts you to their presence.

yeah, Enemies are making Footsteps and at least on my side i can hear them clear and loudly. But i heard that some Users don't hear them. Voice Acting will be a Part of Early Access.

btw, Dev isn't active on Steam. For such Feedback please use

They should be active here too since it's part of their channel.

Road to Vostok is made by a Single Developer, he can't be everywhere.

I played some more and I ended up hearing footsteps twice. It seems you need to have direct line of sight for them to make sound before firing at you. The only times I've heard them moving have been when they are walking by a window unaware of my presence.

How can the others manage it and not him? It should be in his interest to check in every now and then since there aren't that many people writing here.

Truth be told, the man is busy working. I wouldn't fault him one bit if he never reads this thread.

i can tell you how Steam works tbh. 90% of the Feedback is BS and the other 10% already got send either per Feedback Form, Social Comments or Discord multiple times.

You really can't compare this Dev to others. Most Indie Studios have some sort of Community Managers. They get their Developer Status on Steam but they aren't really the Developer OR the Developer is active but little Updates need 2-3 Months.

If you want to do the Amount of Development that Antti does (and you can check his speed up on social Media) you don't have the time to handle everything.

Pretty sure he will be more active once we hit Early Access ... (guess you guys forgot that the Game isn't released yet) but for now Steam Community is just a Timewaster for a Dev because it's moderated poorly and most of the Feedback is from little spoiled Kids.

ofc not talking about this Thread @OP.

as said, your threat isn't meant with that :) i already heard that some users struggle with sounds (like footsteps) while others hear them crisp and loud.

For me it seems like an issue with the Engine and some Hardware.

Great feedback :)

Edit: footsteps of course are just hearable in a close distance, you won't hear an Enemy walking 200 Meters aways in the Forest.

If your headphones aren't great, or you're constantly running around and not stopping to listen, it can be difficult because the footstep sounds are realistic in volume. CS and COD have the sound completely blown out of proportion. Fun games, but they're more arcade and this is a simulation, it's meant to be played slowly. If you want an advantage, set the season to winter, the footsteps on snow are a little louder.

Senheisers. Hard to get better headphones than mine. Its possible, but I reckon mine are better than what 60% of people use.

IRL I can tell where people are walking within my building and certainly around me outdoors. I think you are underestimating how much people with GOOD hearing can hear IRL.

turn music off and turn the other audio setting max. i think you can even turn off nature noise. I cant remember exactly, but I had to do it, and it made it better. but yes without some voice audio or something its very hard, But it was worse,

Oh if you change the audio ,Beware gun shots will be really loud and jump scare you. even getting shot at across map, sounds like they are putting the gun to your head and pulling trigger.

Sprinting around in gear IRL? I dunno, I don't have too much trouble hearing people in this game, don't know what to tell you.
I can hear them stomping in the next house over. Get better headphones or better ears.
