maybe someday there will be a mod for this but it won't happen for the Main Game.

bro being able to get your loot back would make it so death has no penalty.

It was something stated in the description, but I do get why some people want to be able to pick their loot back up.

Maybe if the devs choose to, make it an option to toggle. Like a custom game thing. Probably won't happen but, it's an idea.

since i'm a little bit tired of explaining why there won't be such an Option i'll just requote the last Statement from Antti.

And one thing related to hardcore elements and difficulty. I really want to emphasize bragging rights in this game when it comes to earned gear. Stuff like permadeath in Vostok is a crucial design element related to this topic, since if you are willing to risk your character and travel deep in Vostok in order to acquire some cool stuff, there should not be a way to get that more easily by just lowering the difficulty settings or removing the permadeath etc. I think stuff like that would greatly devalue the bragging right aspect if somebody could get that same gear without the risk etc.

In the future though, I think modding will be a core thing of RtV that would provide some level of difficulty / parameter tweaking, but the "vanilla" gameplay experience should always remain hardcore.

It might seems a bit counterintuitive to not provide difficulty options but I strongly believe it's the right choice for game like this in the long run.

Only question I have is - why bother playing after you die once then?

Like, I don't even get a weapon to defend myself with on re spawn. If the intent to make death meaningful is so important, then just make everyone permadeath 24/7. Running around naked with no chance to get a weapon back seems pointless compared to just restarting...

You still have the Weapons, Gear, Items you brought back to your Shelter. You can store stuff there and have it once you respawn after you died in the Area 05 and Border Zone Area.

If you die without bringing back items to one of the Shelters you can just start a new Game.

There are 3 ways you can respawn without Items in your shelter.

1. You are playing the Game wrong. RtV is not about rushing to Vostok. Prepare yourself. Store Items in the Shelter so you have them in case you die.

2. You are unlucky or bad. It can happen that you are unlucky and die with your starter items without making it back to the shelter but if this happens often it's a skill issue and maybe the Game is just too hard for you. Not a big deal, there are other Games out there that will fit your Playstyle better.

3. You die in the Vostok Permadeath Area. In this case you still spawn in the shelter without any items instead of getting into the Main Menu. Just a missing feature.

Thanks. The answer was #1. First time downloading in a long while. I was about to delete my post above, thought about earlier but I was in game and the bandits don't seem to care.

edit: While you are around, is there any kind of rest mechanic in your attic that saves and/or refreshes your health without meds?

All good, you can just leave it there. No shame in asking Questions and since an Demo Update is about to drop either this or next Weekend many new Players may have the same Problem.

There is no Rest Mechanic yet, there also isn't such a Feature in the Upcoming Demo. We don't know what Antti (Dev) has planned for Resting and Sauna Mechanics.

Since the Doctor is coming as a second Trader i don't think we get another Source of Healing beside of Meds and the Doctor. I guess Sauna/Resting will be features for another Stat. Something like Mental Health.

But right now we don't know anything about those Features.

Okay, thanks for the information. As this game is an interesting but early work in progress, I'll pop in and out every couple months (much like another game, Vein) and see how things are progressing.

I will check it out post update though, thanks for the information!

No Problem =)

i don't know the exact Update Shedule for Vein but as far as i know it's an ever Evolving Demo till it hits Early Access Quality. Road to Vostok doesn't work excatly like that.

The next Demo will be the last one. We will get 3 Major Updates for the Demo in a Timespan of around 2-4 Weeks per Patch. I don't know excatly since the Dev will tell us in the next Video shortly before the Demo drops.

After that there is no need to check on the Game every few Months since there won't be an Update till the Game hits Early Access in about a Year, if not more.

Not a Fan of it to be honest, since the Demo will get "old" pretty soon and not reflect the actual Quality of the Game. Players will need to get the Information on the Internet instead of Playing it (Dev Videos, Twitter, Discord and closed Tests). But that's what the Dev decided.
