What's the best weapon type?
I've experimenting with a few of the weapons; spatulas, knives, fish, and tenderizers, but I really can't decide which is better. Spatulas and fish have fast attack speed but low damage whereas hammers and knives are slow but powerful.

Which do you think is best to invest upgrades in?

I'm after 3rd dungeon (aka completed fully) and I haven't bothered with upgrading or modding outside of basic testing how the stuff works.

All weapon classes are fine.

I'm using smackrel and tenderiser most of the time

I think the best weapon in the game are the Durians. Innate poison element, very strong special with the shortest downtime in the game at 7 seconds, infinite piercing, rapid hits as it goes through enemies meaning it triggers the element you put on it really quickly, and it even breaks enemy projectiles despite the Durian being a projectile itself.

For melee its the Spears since they can trigger elements very quickly with their dash attack.

Slap on Salty + Concussive Push and/or Sour on either of these two(or both) and you're pretty much set for the entire game.

All weapons are good, choose what you like. For me it's Durian bomb with electro (can melt packs of mobs) and spear (fast, good mobility). Only greatswords are bad for bosses and some mobs, but it depends on how you play. They are still have good damage per hit, although they are slow so you can get hit.

More important equipment's flavor. It can change your playstile and dps significantly

If you know bosses moveset and when/how to attack safely, they work splendidly.

Greatsword alone is terrible for efficient boss killing. The bull boss for example won't ever let you get in the 2nd hit of the combo much less the 3rd. It's fun to kite bosses and land hits with it yes, but once you step into the league and have a time limit to kill bosses it starts to become obvious how bad it is at doing that.
It's the best weapon to me for general mob fighting though, so as long as you have something for bosses you're golden.

My personal opinion on Greatswords is that they're only good in certain situations. Not even knowing the bosses' moveset by heart will make them "great". This is because of two reasons.

First is the fact they have a much harder time abusing flavors. Greatswords don't have a lot of options to make use of the two strongest flavors in the game(Salty and Sour) because they attack so slow and that these flavors don't compensate for the greatsword's slower attack speed. A Salty SwiftStrike Spear will be able to do 2 to 3 150 damage dash attacks in the time a Salty SwiftStrike Tenderizer or Deba Knife will do 95 with their own. They also lock you out of using your other non-weapon flavor options like the Dashes for longer than the light weapons.

Second, It just takes too long for it's entire combo string to land. By the time a greatsword has done it's full 105 damage combo, a Durian has already done 110-130 after throwing it's entire 3 ammo stock in half the time, and at a much safer range. By the time a Greatsword's last attack lands, the Durian is already throwing another set of stinkfruit down the lane. When fighting a boss, you're almost guaranteed to get hit if you commit to a full Greatsword combo.

Good luck fighting the finale boss with a Greatsword as your main weapon because the boss heavily punishes taking hits by setting you on fire.

My thoughts exactly. I use a Deba Knife as my primary and it's more or less softlocked me out of League 3 until I rework my entire build.

Oof. If you want to just clear the game, just grab a Salty DashStrike Spear, or Salty On-Impact Plate/Durian and slot in a Concussive Push into any random boot or glove. That should be enough to get you through the last leg of the game.

Yeah Spear/Durian. The mods you put on them will determine whether they are good against bosses or mobs.

Does the smackerel have a dash strike? I've tried to dash strike with it several times, but haven't really been able to tell it doing anything different than a regular attack.
P4wn4g3 Nov 16, 2023 @ 6:23pm
I think Spatula and Smackerel have the same dash attack, a 180 degree swipe. Smackerel has a really bad special though.
shiggy Nov 16, 2023 @ 7:01pm
I found Smackerel's special okay as it gives you some on-demand aoe. Worst special for me is probably the Kebab Skewer. It takes forever to activate and if you cancel out of the animation, you're left with some 'timebombs' that take even longer to go off and can't be manually detonated.

Also worth mentioning that upgrading either greatsword weapon is useless as it's a straight +1 damage each time so far. The main combo goes from 35/50/70 to 36/52/72 on the 2nd upgrade for example. I'll definitely give the Salt spear build a try once the patch for rerolling costs comes.
