Bubble tea upgrade?
I upgraded it, thinking it'd heal more, but I'm not sure what it actually did?

each upgrade is like 5 hp healed increase, it's not particularly notable from level 1 to 2 but from 1 to 5 it's quite a bit

It disappointed is what it did.

I mean it's not that bad. You get 5hp bonus for each one, and you can carry 4 of them. So per level, you're actually gaining 20hp healed per run. At max, thats 80hp, which is pretty much almost an extra healthbar worth of extra HP per run.

Assuming you never ever even touch HP, which is the only defensive stat, it's noticeable above level 1 sure. Even then though it still isn't worth the effort that's currently required for upgrades.

even the 5 extra hp per eq upgrade is worth it xD

Yeah cereal doesn't think HP is any good in this game, but since you can't make a one shot build for everything in this game as would be the case if this game were more of a roguelite, HP is definitely very helpful. Especially in early to mid game. Later on you can get a better dps build going, so right now I'm testing out some stuff that does greatly reduce the need for HP.

Yea I do think HP is pretty "eh..." in this game, but only on modifiers. I'm fine with it on potions since they don't take up any slots for doing damage. I just think that a dead enemy is an enemy that can't do damage and they'll be dead faster if you're using modifier slots for damage instead of HP.

It's mostly a playstyle thing since I enjoy living on the edge whenever I play these types games and I live for high risk, high reward strategies. If there's a shiny at the end of a tunnel but Ill die in one hit on the way to get it, you bet I'm gonna go for it 90% of the time.

HP is a crutch in this game to pad against mistakes, you're right that you have to trade valuable damage for it, and is even less significant because of bubble tea healing items. You're bringing in only initial health, since fountain heal is flat 50 and doesn't scale.

So unless they change that in future patches, avoiding damage is simply much better in the long run.

I mean technically you can take a damage boost potion and perhaps that actually would create a one-shot build. I haven't even unlocked any other bobs though so no idea.

Avoiding damage is the best strategy for any game with HP. Except Paper Mario TTYD since it has an OP low HP build. Simply avoiding all damage limits the variation of strategies within games and I never feel like that adds more challenge to the game. It's one of the reasons I'm not entirely on-board with how Souls-likes tend to be made, but then that also depends on the circumstance. It's better to have both worlds to make the player have to choose between approaches. So far in this game there are a small number of really good builds that work in all scenarios and an overwhelming number of bad builds that never work, not much in-between going on.
