Another great one are the Durian Bombs. Multihit base attack, projectiles that stick to walls(they continue to do damage when they hit a wall, so slam an enemy into a wall then start throwing) and a special attack that combos incredibly well with melees and has a really low cooldown.
Tenderizers are also pretty good, since their Special attack can oneshot the annoying green tadpoles across the screen, and they can one-combo a few mobs like the tribal potheads and chili peppers. They're also really good at harvesting materials with their dash attack.
Which is why it's an excellent pairing with the spear. Spear pushback is enough to get stuff into position for you to stink bomb them into a wall or you know, dash over the gap yourself and start using it like a melee weapon with a slightly longer reach. I like to treat it as such since it's special is so damn good, especially with a freeze, shock or pushback set. it's also got an innate element, something most other weapons don't have. So right out the box, you can use Poison Damage modifiers. Also, did you know the Durian can pop projectiles at range and it has infinite piercing?
The damage stat displayed is kinda bugged at the moment, base plates is 10 damage but it's actually 5 damage x 2 projectiles, and +1 per plate per upgrade (so 6x2, 7x2 and so on)
You can go even further with Piercing 2 on gloves or boots (Piercing 1 for some reason doesn't work?)
Then you just go into tune of reloading every 5 presses and it's a solid ranged build.
Agreed, the Swordfish is the better of the two because it provides more ranged coverage than the Skewer. It's special activates faster, and lets you "ride the wave" to catch mobs that have been stun locked by it. It even pushes enemies back so you can abuse wall slamming with the spear class' very powerful dash attack.
