Does more expensive furniture or decorations do anything?

Seems like I want to buy as many small wood/stone stools/tables and fill the place with them efficiently. I don't see the point of the more expensive stuff, and especially decorations that take up floor space.

Some of the decorations increase a certain type of customer, that’s all they do utility wise.

Furniture from the carpenter, and merchants. There will be an icon on it to tell you which customer will show up more if you use it.

Certain decorations will show a character portrait on the right of its window when you hover over it. So far I have:
Cozy = Townsfolk
Regal = Children
Vintage = Elderly

The next set you will unlock after those are the policemen/guards then the rich fancy dragon folk.

My regal candles seem to attract townsfolk. In fact all of the decor I could buy today does, don't know if it cycles.

the unlock quota is tied to upgrading your restaurant. You will have access to them all around level 6 or 7 upgrade I can’t recall the exact one.

I dont know man,

I put up a bunch of Medieval furniture (1 for each type) in hope to attract more guards, but that whole day I didnt even get a single guard to come.

Some other guy seemed to have compared it a bunch and told me that there is a cap on furniture changing the percentages they offset the customers by. He seemed to think it wasn't very noticeable as a result and I tend to agree. I don't think it's worth buying this furniture.

I don't see any higher prices or tips for putting up furniture, maybe the frequency of visits will be higher? (not sure)

Right. But only slightly. Oh but it adjust frequency of everybody else to lower to compensate.
